Asking for your opinions one more time. And if anyone can explain the LowerGirdle Halves and the Star/Upper Ratio on the Sarin Report. I''m just curious, haven''t seen much information about this and it''s affects that would be great.

Thanks for the help!

This is a F/VS2 1.02 ct. Diamond

Looks promising "by the numbers" and images! Congratulations!

I agree, it looks loverly!

Well now that the diamond is kind of decided upon. I really need to start to concern myself with settings.

I know I want a Simple Solitaire Setting, 6 prongs, and I don''t think I like the knife edge look, more smooth and rounded.
I like the way this setting looks, with the width of the ring tapering up to the setting.

Anyone have any other suggestions or want to feed me a few links to get some better ideas.

I''m also trying to decide between, Platinum, Paladium, or 14k White Gold. I know they all have there pros and cons, she is a teacher but not sure if that helps in making the decision.

I know the 14k gold will need to be maintained, (rhodium plated) probably at some point. I''m not all that keen on the extra weight of Platinum, but in such a small setting it may not be so bad. (5.5 size finger).

Do platinum and Paladium really scratch and hold the scratches as much as I have seen and heard?

I love MM designs, your diamond would look gorgeous in that setting!!! I am pretty sure know which vendor is selling your diamond, have you checked out what they have available?

Lorelei,

Thanks for all the input, and yep I''m currently in the process of talking to them about what is available, was just trying to gather more ideas and make decisions between types of metals..I think I understand all the pros and Cons between 14k White, Platinum, or Paladium. Just not sure which to go with.

I really do like the shapes of either the Petite SunBurst or Petite Torchiere settings...have to see what we come up with.

Thanks,

Ben

Hi Ben,

Sounds like you have everything under control! The MM settings are gorgeous, he is one of my favourite jewellery artisans but I am sure the diamond vendor can come up with something lovely too!

Just wanted to give a little update.

The diamond arrived and it is beautiful! Thanks to all those that helped this newbie pick a beautiful diamond. Showed it to a couple of friends and they are also impressed.

Now I''m struggling on the setting, Would like to do a 4 prong, but I worry about security. She is a 5th and 6th grade teacher, if you were to do the setting, or at least the head in platinum, would I really need to worry every night?

I was also concerned about the way 4 prongs square off a smaller diamond, but on this 1ct. diamond should that even be a concern?

Obviously I want to show of the diamond because it is beautiful, and I understand that 4 prongs would accomplish this, but at what cost?

Also Platinum or 14k Gold? is there really a preference if all costs were equal?

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!

4 prongs should be fine, it is a matter of preference. Some prefer 6 as they think it makes the diamond look rounder, others prefer 4 as they feel it shows the diamond off more. So go with what you prefer, as long as it is worn with care and the prongs are checked regularly - plus the diamond is insured as you would normally do, either should be fine. Platinum is very popular but it does develop a patina over time. WG can sometimes need replating, I have had some WG pieces for many years and have never needed this doing but it depends. Some feel plat is more durable, but go with what you prefer. If you go with MM I think he only works with platinum anyway.

I don''t think you can go wrong with the MM setting in platinum -- I think it will be stunning and 1 carat doesn''t seem too small for 6 prongs.
