I had something weird happen last night. I was going to a birthday party and decided to wear my late mother's gold watch. She had more than one watch, but this is the one that was given to her by her parents for her 21st birthday, it's solid gold, and she wore it every day for forty years. I had the thought, "I'll wear Mom's watch and then a part of her can come to the party with me." I feel close to her through this watch because she wore it all the time for so many decades, and it's one of those items I remember from my childhood and associate very closely with her and her parents. They were not well-off - never even owned their apt - so buying this gold watch must have really cost them. It's only 10k, but still.
I live in an apt with an elevator. I had just put the watch on, I locked the front door, and before I'd taken two steps down the hall, the elevator door slid open for me. There was no one around. Also, that door is a PITA - it usually only stays open for two seconds before starting to close. This time, it just stayed open. The way it was open long before I got to it was very concierge-like.
I don't think that someone sent up the elevator as there was just no one around. This elevator has been slightly weird before, in that occasionally sometimes stops on the third floor when no one is there, although that hasn't happened in a while.
So, last night. Mom? Or coincidence? I did have a few weird things like that happen after she died long ago, too, between the death and the funeral.
ETA: Just remembered that when the elevator arrives on a floor, it pings. So no one sent it up - it was just sitting there. And then the door opened as soon as I left the apt.
