A Weird Ghost-Like Thing Just Happened

I had something weird happen last night. I was going to a birthday party and decided to wear my late mother's gold watch. She had more than one watch, but this is the one that was given to her by her parents for her 21st birthday, it's solid gold, and she wore it every day for forty years. I had the thought, "I'll wear Mom's watch and then a part of her can come to the party with me." I feel close to her through this watch because she wore it all the time for so many decades, and it's one of those items I remember from my childhood and associate very closely with her and her parents. They were not well-off - never even owned their apt - so buying this gold watch must have really cost them. It's only 10k, but still.

I live in an apt with an elevator. I had just put the watch on, I locked the front door, and before I'd taken two steps down the hall, the elevator door slid open for me. There was no one around. Also, that door is a PITA - it usually only stays open for two seconds before starting to close. This time, it just stayed open. The way it was open long before I got to it was very concierge-like.

I don't think that someone sent up the elevator as there was just no one around. This elevator has been slightly weird before, in that occasionally sometimes stops on the third floor when no one is there, although that hasn't happened in a while.

So, last night. Mom? Or coincidence? I did have a few weird things like that happen after she died long ago, too, between the death and the funeral.

ETA: Just remembered that when the elevator arrives on a floor, it pings. So no one sent it up - it was just sitting there. And then the door opened as soon as I left the apt.

Well I think that's adorable regardless

Awwww, thank you so much, Niel!

Perhaps because you had the thought with the watch you were trying to connect with her or are connected to her, she is giving you the message back she is connected to you.

I truly believe in signs! I think you should wear her watch more often. Even if it wasn't really your moms presence, as some argue, it sure felt like it to you and that's all that is relevant. I feel my parents' presence at times and it brings me much comfort. I hope you felt her love.

I bought a new car yesterday. My mom always put "lucky change" in a newly acquired car. Well, I found a quarter on the back floor...it wasn't there and it wasn't mine.

That is great, why not feel your mom's love and presence in that? Good stuff, always accept delivery on good stuff!

Have you watched Insidious 3? :naughty:

Right there with you, arkieb!

Thank you, everyone. It's true that some weird things happened after she died, too.

I do wish we had some kind of definitive answer about whether people continue in any form after death. While some spooky things happen occasionally, a person could also put them down to coincidence. You can go round in circles wondering.

Thanks for the responses! :wavey:

My former coworker told us a story that still sends shivers up my spine. On the 1st anniversary of her mother's death, her watch stopped at precisely the same time her mom died.

I like to think our loved ones who have passed on drop by once in a while just to see how we're doing or let us know they're still around. I'm sure it's wishful thinking on my part but it's a comforting thought. :)

That's quite the story, Poodles.

I like to think our departed loved ones are around, too. But I wish I knew for sure.

On the one year anniversary of my mom's death, my DD's necklace from my mom broke off in the middle of the night after DD refused to take it off for the entire year. That was chilling.

What a sweet story! You must have thought about her all night!

I was very close to my grandmother and her death was devastating. My mom and grandpa were hopelessly depressed and I was worried sick about them.

I never have very vivid dreams, they are chaotic and blurry, and they are forgotten after I wake up. A few months after her death, I had a very clear, very unique one. In the dream, I walked through a door into a room where my grandma was sitting. She said just this to me: "I don't know why everyone is so worried about me, I'm doing just fine." I never dreamt about my grandma before or after that day.

I'm sure our brains can fabricate all kinds of things in order to cope with loss and stress, but it felt so real and it brought me so much peace. Just as it's possible that it was just a dream, it's possible that it was a message from her. Nothing is impossible.

Mom was eager to get to that party! Hope she had a great time!

Sandeek, that is indeed chilling. I like your story about the change in the car, too!

OMD21, that definitely sounds like a message to me! I felt a peace after the elevator incident, and if you felt peace too after your dream, maybe that is a sign.

Haaahahaa, tyty that's so cute!

That's weird, I just had this shiver up my spine . . . kind of an ominous feeling . . . reminding me of . . .

KENNY! :shifty:

THE POST IS COMING FROM INSIDE THE THREAD!!

There it is!

His name, but no actual post! IT'S A GHOST!

I have photographic proof!

(sorry, Jambalaya, not making fun of you, just your title works so well with the joke)

Also wanted to give you an actual reply to your OP; I think that electrical fields are very easy to fluctuate, so your mother really could have been sending you a signal. I'll bet she's done other things in the past (on birthday maybe?) and you might not have noticed. Keep an eye out!

I think, if someone posts something and then it is deleted, their name remains even if the post is gone.

I can't seem to get it to work for me, but I think that has something to do with it.

Unless Ella had to chase Kenny all over the forum and delete his posts? But I was following it pretty fast and I didn't see a post, so I don't really know.

Where's the shrug emotie.

Stop that, Kenny! (he did it again, a name but no post)

Come out, come out, wherever you are!

I feel a cool breeze. It kind of smells like Old Spice . . .

:?

Yes, you're definitely right about the posting and deleting and the name remaining thing :)

But I don't think that's what's going on due to the sheer volume of "posts", plus as you said, it's happening fast - I've clicked on threads right after Kenny's name appeared, but saw nothing.

So strange!! I've only been on the boards for a couple of years, but I've never seen this happen.

Eta - but thank you for replying, iLander!!

Oh, I think he mentioned once that he took typing. So he's probably got some speed going.

But there's nothing more dangerous than a bored Kenny . . .

Lol, maybe you're right!! I don't know, it's very odd though.

It happens sometimes when someone is on time out and they try to post anyway, or if they are back from a timeout and the software glitches. I do not work full time so do not always see it immediately but should be fixed. :wavey:

Hi Ella.

Can you fix me?
My two-month vacation started July 4.
I emailed you Sept 4th.
I can log in now so thanks for doing whatever you did to let me log in, but nobody can see my posts.

Help.

Kawabunga, I'm alive.
I mean, I assume I'm alive since I can see this post ... unlike every other post since my jail term ended two days ago.

BTW, I never logged in or tried to post during my two-month jail term.

The food in jail sucks, but I met a lot of cute guys. :naughty:
