A Tale of Two OMCs - My Moi et Toi by DK

A few weeks ago I received my Moi et Toi ring by DK. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results; Amy was wonderful to work with and the bench team did a fabulous job!
This ring ended up being a year + project. As this was to be a rhr I didn’t want a solitaire so I first started thinking about a 3 stone ring, changed my mind to a 5, then a cluster....I saw many beautiful options but none that were “it”. And then, I saw an antique OEC Moi et Toi on IG and that’s when the obsession began .
But I wanted OMCs instead of OECs. Little did I know what a challenge it would be to find a matching pair. Finally, after months of searching I found my stones only to realize my inspirational ring, although beautiful, wasn’t “me”. So next came months of pondering the design. When I finally settled on the design the CAD & execution by the DK team ended up being the shortest part of the project!

1.79/I/SI1 OMC 7.46 x 6.97
1.76/J/VS2 OMC 7.48 x 7.18
I/VS graduated single cuts matched to the OMCs bead set in platinum

Confession: Once upon a time I looked at Moi et Toi rings and I thought to myself “those stones would make fabulous earrings”... Nowadays? A few weeks ago I saw a pair of large antique pears on JbG and I thought “those would make a fab Moi et Toi”

Tell us about finding the stones. I can certainly imagine that this was a nontrivial effort! How long did you search? Did you buy them together or match them separately?

@yssie, I searched for the stones for maybe 6 -8 months? Hard to recall exactly as my search morphed over time. I initially thought I could match individual stones but I came to realize the folly of that endeavor...I ended up looking for pairs and found these at auction. As @KristyDarling said, searching for pairs is not for the faint of heart, and buying at auction takes it to a whole other level!! To add to the challenge this pair was collet set, so I couldn’t see the girdles, get a true weight or accurate size. But, they had the shape and faceting I was looking for, so I took a chance and bid.
