I've decided to hit the reset button for a .9 ct princess cut diamond. I am torn between 2 settings. I hope that the PS universe could help me sort out the pros and cons of each and make my decision easier.

I want the ring to look feminine and delicate yet durable enough to wear 2-3x/week. The sharps edges of a princess aren't "me". I would like to de-emphasize that characteristic. Also, I want maximum finger coverage. That's why I am considering halos. I want something uncommon, nothing that I would find at Jared, Macy's, Claire's, Zales, etc. I plan for this to be the stone's forever setting.

I have no idea whether it will be a RHR or something I would alternate with my e-ring. It couldn't serve as both. My right ring finger is a size 5-5.25 and my left is a 4.25-4.5.

Both settings have this gallery design.

The first setting is a webdiva inspiration. I love her POH's Bev K setting. Coverage and classic. Julian at Pearlman's sent me a sketch of the shape it would be for a square stone. Price: $1550

My second option is a sapphire halo setting also by Beverly K. Price: $2390

It is this setting (with the same gallery as above) ...

For a square stone ...

With this filigree and melee detail on the halo.

My husband says they are both pretty. I would more input.

Cant vote cus I love both!!

I love the sapphires (I'm a bit biased when it comes to blue). If you are looking for unique I think you will get more of a reaction from the sapphires because of the color pop. Everybody has seen a square halo and to the untrained eye (read not a PSer) they will all look the same at a glace. The sapphires will really stand out though. I get remarks all the time on my e-ring and even though it is not well made (at all...long story) it is noticed and people are always saying how beautiful and unique it is and I think it is because of the sapphire halo.

Peoples reactions aside I don't particularly love the airline halo look and think the sapphire halo design really highlights the center stone and I love the way the sapphires are cut to fit together perfectly with no metal between them.

the sapphire halo is very pretty and unique, compared to the diamond airline halo, but sapphires are not as durable (I chipped mine which was channel set and I hardly wear it, don't know how that happened). I would vote for the sapphire halo though!

Since you're asking...
I, personally, don't care for the sapphire halos. Something about them tends to look like costume jewelry to me and not an e-ring. (Please, no offense to all of you who have lovely sapphire rings!).

I think the all-diamond setting looks more fluid, timeless and elegant. Just my opinion.

Good luck!! And honestly, I don't think there is a "wrong" choice. So just go with your gut! ;)

Since it's a RHR, I vote sapphire setting!

Chipping? Uh oh.

I am afraid that people will assume the sapphire halo is fake as it is not very common where I live. Not that I should care what people think ... But still, I want to show off!

Oh wait. There are plastic knock offs of Princess Diana's now Kate Middleton's ring. I am afraid to be lumped into that group. But I love the Bev K halo ...

I think that the sapphire halo is very pretty, but I prefer them with OEC's and OMC's rather than a more modern cut like the princess. The diamond halo would still give you an antique vintage look but with more modern flair I think. I adore webdivas ring, and it gives fantastic finger presence. So I vote for the diamond halo. Looking forward to hearing what you decide!

I like them both so I am no help.

I tend to agree. I really, really want a ring with sapphires but I do think that I should wait for the right stone like an OMC or OEC. It could be next year's project perhaps.

I like princesses best in simple solitaires. I would love to stick in Vatché's Inara. I can't do that because my e-ring is a solitaire. I would just feel weird about it.

Most settings for princesses aren't my style. I got really excited when I saw webdiva's ring because I finally had an idea of what to do with my diamond.

I love the sapphire setting. I am concerned about durability. We got a puppy 2 months ago. He aims to bite the head of my e-ring. My Vatché Caroline is holding up, amazingly. I wouldn't wear New Ring around New Dog. But, I am clutz and constantly knock into things. Should I damage New Ring (and I probably will), I think the webdiva ring would be less of a hassle to fix than the sapphire ring.

I am going to think about it for a few more days and talk to my husband about it. In closing, I love these Single Stone rings. I can wait for the right diamond. First, I'd like to dress up the princess.

Hmm. I'm not sure if a sapphire halo suits a princess cut as well as a diamond & filigree halo.

This setting isn't Beverly K. It is something I found on Google.

The sapphire one looks more like a right hand ring to me, and less like an e-ring. So I would go with the first halo.

Tough choice - they are both beautiful!!!

If it was solely an ering - webdiva's inspirational all diamond ring would win hands down. If its solely a RHR, then I'd go sapphire, but if you are planning on alternating... hmm... I think I'd still stick with the all diamond option and what really strikes me as 'different' is to have a round diamond in a cushion style halo! Blingy to be an e ring alternate but design wise, different enough to stand as a RHR as well.

Enjoy the decision making process :appl:

I like the second one of these two Single Stone settings you posted here. It has both diamond and sapphire halos with those diamond melee corners and is beautiful and surely unique. I don't see why you couldn't put a princess cut in that square setting. The sapphires are protected by the bezel and would be hard to chip. I love sapphires.

I vote sapphire - gorgeous!

I like the design of the sapphire halo but I would just stick with white diamonds instead.

Using my mad MS Paint skills, I came up with rough representations of what the sapphire halo might look like.

BREKING NEWS: HUSBAND PICKS SAPPHRE HALO

PS chooses sapphires. Husband chooses sapphires. Looks like my choice has been made. Phew. I was really torn between both. Picking a setting is stressful!

Woo hoo!!! Now --- *which* sapphire setting was the chosen one? There are a lot of gorgeous options here!! Do tell.....

You did a great job on that! I really wasn't in favor of putting such a modern cut stone in an antique setting, but it looks pretty good in that square halo!

I was worried too. It does look a lot better than I thought it would.

It's this setting (roughly copied and pasted together in MS Paint). I hope it looks better IRL. :rodent:

This will be the gallery.

Both are very lovely settings. If you generally like to match your jewelry, or tend to oscillate in terms of what you like, I think the diamond only setting might be a better option for you. It is fabulous, but still more neutral.
However, if you don't mind coordinating colors and are instead more interested in having a more recognizable piece - one that would make an evident statement - you might prefer the sapphire.

Anyways, I'm sure you'd love any of these :)

AWESOME design, Girlygirl!!! DH did well being the biggest vote in the group! that will be gorgeous as a RHR with the ability to alternate as a back up ering - when will production begin??? Its gonna be a beauty!!! :appl:
