A SI1 "Clarity Grade is Based on Clouds That are Not Shown"

Dear everyone,

I need help for a SI1 diamond.

On its report, there is basically no flaws at all (Please see the attached graph). But it comments: "Clarity Grade is Based on Clouds That are Not Shown". I am very worried about its optical perfermance, since many experts here believe it would be a problem if it is a SI grade diamond.

I have two favors to ask:
1. Is it going to be a serious problem? What kind of optical problems would it cause?
2. The vendor promise me that it would be eye clean. And I am generally very much insensitive to the flaws. Shall I believe the vendor?
3. I can possibly get the macro photo of the diamond on Monday. Can you please help me to make a decision then?

Thank you so much. Any advice will be much appreciated!

There is nothing accurate we can tell you about it without seeing the diamond itself.
Has the vendor actually seen the diamond?
Do they have a good return policy?
Can you view it unset?
Is it going into a custom setting before you can see it?

Before we know if you even need to worry about the clouds, we would need to know more about the diamond and its cut. If it is "just another steep/deep AGS 3 or 4 light performance diamond masquerading as a GIA X then it will really not matter about the clouds, as it is already so much less than it could be.

If it is a SLAM BAM KILLER GREAT cut with an AGS 0 light performance then it becomes worthy of asking if the clouds could interfere.

For that YOU would need to see the stone and have the right to return it if YOU do not like it.

Dear Karl,

Thank you so much for your help!

It won't be going into a setting before I see it. Unfortunately, it is very hard to negotiate a return term for vendors here in China, i.e. once you order it from other places, it is going to cost me some money to return it.

Best,
Yang

Dear Wink,

Thank you for this advice!

I think the diamond is a quite good cut although the color is quite poor at J. I used the HCA tool to test its optical perfermance. It scores 1.6 with a table 56, depth 61.9, crown angle 35 and pav 40.8.

I think you would be better off going with a less risky diamond in that case.

As the photo show, it is still not clear where the cloud are. Also I am not very sure about the transparency for this one.

Have you spoken with the vendor to ask him about what the appearance is?

Internet vendors have GREAT incentive not to lie about these things as it takes so little in the terms of negative reviews to destroy a reputation.

It will always be better to see the diamond yourself, but having a good discussion with the vendor can often help you make a decision on whether or not to "risk" the expense to bring the diamond in for a look.

There is something going across the bottom of the table from like 4:00 to 6:30. It is barely visible and I'm not sure that
is what the cloud is.

Re: A SI1 "Clarity Grade is Based on Clouds That are Not Sho

I just went through this except I didn't notice that it said the clarity was based on clouds before I ordered. I emailed the vendor and they assured me that it would not affect brilliance and that it is completely eye clean. When I got it they were right! Sometimes I can see it when I put the stone really close to my face but other than that I don't. I love it so much! But honestly I think if they didn't have such a great return policy I would have cancelled the order.

Dear Moosie,

Cheers for your loving diamond! I hope I can find a similar one like yours.

If you do not mind, can you please tell more details about your diamond? At what clarity or cut? Or much simpler way would be the number of GIA report. Thank you so much anyway!

Best,
Yang
