@missy posted about the the Nor'easter currently starting to hit our area in another thread, but it needs a thread of its own. I came here to post in it and found the thread did not, yet, exist so I am starting it. I need to know how some of my Pricescope buddies are doing during this storm. I was especially thinking of missy with her home on the Jersey Shore and of @YadaYadaYada in Connecticut, but also about some posters on Long Island! Please chime in while you still have power and Internet access!

Hi @AGBF thanks for starting this thread.

We are predicated to get 18" here with wind gusts of 45 plus mph. All I can think about at the moment is 1. Our feral kitties outdoors and 2. losing power and heat

The kitties are so vulnerable and we cannot do anything to help them in this storm. Greg will shovel a path to the food as soon as it safe to do so...when stops snowing so heavily hopefully early afternoon. We have their water heated so it won't freeze but they cannot get to it now as everything is covered with snow.

The winds are so fierce that I am sure the power will go down. Hopefully our generator will kick in but if our power goes down I cannot get online as all internet and cable goes down and stays down even with our generator because power outages affect the cable and internet companies. So if you don't hear from me know why.

Poor kitties. It is brutal out. Just brutal. If you can think good thoughts for them I would appreciate it.

It is pitch dark out here so I cannot take pictures but if I can later I will. We already have a lot of accumulation.

Hope everyone in the path of the storm stays safe and well.

While I am waiting to take photos here is a photo from our last big snowstorm. We got snow on the beach. That is very rare as usually snow doesn't stick on the beach. I think we will be getting snow on the beach with this storm too.

And just from a year ago. January 2021.

I'm waiting for it to hit us up here in Maine. It has just started snowing. We are also predicted to have anywhere between 12-18'' and CMP was sending out emails to warn of the inevitable wind driven outages we may have last night. The really heavy stuff will reach us by midmorning or so.
So, I guess we'll just have to see what shakes.
Stay toasty, my friends in snow. Stay toasty.

Thanks Kenny. Can I send the feral cats your way? I will provide their food. :)

EEK. I'm not sure whether you're serious.

If you can round them up, could you keep them in your garage temporarily?

Thanks Kenny. I was only joking. I wish. If I could take them inside I sure would. They are wild and wouldn’t come inside. We had to trap them to neuter them and well it’s not practical to trap them to bring them inside during storms. It is super hard and stressful on the kitties and us. Just hoping they are smart enough to find a safe place to ride it out. It is so cold though. Ugh. This is the main reason I hate winter. For the Ferals. I wish they all could live in warm climates.

Kudos to you for getting them fixed.

While it's too late for this storm, perhaps you could build some kind of outdoor structure for them, like a dog house.
I don't know if it would be possible or even affordable to have a licensed electrician run an underground line to it to provide some level of heat.
Even if you kept it at 40 F, that's better than below zero.

Picture it, 2022 and the ferrels have their own ocean-front mansion on the Joisey Shore.
You can tell everyone you run a 'cathouse'. :lol-2:
And missy is already the perfect name for a madam.

Is anyone thinking of the snowflake video kenny posted? I cannot help but think of it when I see a snowflake now!

Thanks for thinking of me and everyone in the path of this big snow event @AGBF!

We are predicted to get 12-18” with snow falling at a rate of 1-2” per hour starting at 10am. Biggest concern for us is the wind knocking out power because we are all electric (even the stove). Thankfully our neighbor generously brought over his extra generator last night. Just hoping the power stays on because having lost electricity before and having no heat during a snowstorm is not pleasant.

Thinking of everyone getting snowed in today, stay safe and warm!

You are so kind to worry about the outdoor kitties. They are lucky to have you!

Here in Boston they're predicting up to 24" of snow. We're already under a thick carpet and it's forecast to snow, increasingly heavily, till midnight tonight. There are strong winds, too, and the snow is billowing in big circles on occasion, and just plain horizontally the rest of the time.

It's currently 19 degrees, which is no worse than normal at this time of year, but visibility is very poor, dropping to a few feet this afternoon when the snow really kicks in.

Yowza!

PS. On the upside, a *very* nice looking man just brought me scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage in bed, with a cup of coffee! Life is good. :))

I was just reading about this on the internet everyone in the path of the storm I hope you stay safe!!

Thanks again Kenny. Yes Greg,my husband , has built them many structures but they take shelter elsewhere. We don’t know where. Not on any of our shelters on our property though. We have tried. So we do the best we can and they do eat at our food station for them. But we do not know where they take shelter.

Whatz da madder wid you, Lady?
Can't you herd cats?

There is a path for the ferals to the feeder.

But they aren't crazy enough to come out in this weather. Hopefully when the storm is over they will make their way to the food.

Everyone stay safe and warm out there. Keeping my fingers crossed that the kitties find nice warm hiding spots.

After reading the reports about how bad the snow was going to be in Boston, I tried to call my 30 year old niece who lives alone there. When she didn't answer I called my brother (her father) and found that no one could reach her. It turned out she had one of her chronic bad migraines and had turned off her telephone. She has tried everything for the migraines and currently sees a therapist, a psychiatrist, and a neurologist. Climate appears to be the main trigger and unfortunately Massachusetts is one of the five worst states (my brother told me today) for the change in barometric pressure that triggers them. California, where she used to live, is one of the best states.

She had been working in the film industry. She came home to be closer to family. She may have to go back to California.

I'm on Long Island near JFK, this is the most snow we have gotten in one day in a LONG time! We've cleared it all a few times and we'll be doing it a few more times. The wind isn't helping either.

It is good to see that they have a place to shelter on your property, even if they do not choose to use it.

Thanks Deb. We think they might find shelter across the street where there is a lot of land and nobody around. We think. But they hang out on our property most of the day. Though not today as it is awful weather outside.

I hope everyone stays safe and warm with power! We hardly got four inches if that. We brace for storms and they usually miss us. Our house usually loses power if you breathe on it but so far we’re good. Please check in so we know you are all okay!
@missy Do you still have snow blowing in your doors? :oops2:

I don’t know lol. Greg’s outside shoveling for the kitties. When he’s done we will go upstairs and check. The winds are so strong. That’s the reason. Otherwise we don’t experience that. But that’s how strong the winds are. Crazy. Glad your power is still on!

I think their predictions of 2 feet may be conservative!

Oh my gosh, you're so petite that's almost missy deep. That's how I'll think about snow depth from now on -- can I see missy's head, if not, the snow is waaaay too missy deep.
