A Nor'easter Is Coming!

@YadaYadaYada
I know, it's scary.
Be safe and trust your DH to get you there!

When I lived in PA I used to risk my life to get to work.
This is the intersection in front of my house.
It's a well traveled secondary road.
I texted the pic to my boss, and he said to stay home! Yay!
There are accidents everywhere, an ambulance just went by seconds ago.

I keep watching the weather reports on various stations to see exactly when the ice starts, I was thinking even if he had to drive me in a couple of hours early it might help. It looks like it’s going to start very early though, I am just a wreck. This is probably phobia level because there is no reasoning with me about driving in bad weather.

I’m glad your boss told you to stay home because you literally drive all day, it’s not like you go to one location and stay there.

If you are only going a few miles, then maybe it won't be that big of a deal. I'm sure your town is prepared for bad weather, and will be plowing and salting. Unlike my town, where snow like this might only happen a few times a year!

@YadaYadaYada, driving there would still be safer than walking there on ice. Hip fractures don't just happen to old people. A friend of mine broke her hip when she fell on ice in her own driveway-- at age 37!

That being said, can you take a personal day off? I know it's a new job but if you get into an accident you also won't be at work-- just saying.

I really can’t take the day off. I think I’m just going to get an Uber, it’s not that expensive and then I don’t have to worry.

Not fit to live here!

Uber sounds like a good plan.

This year I got snow tires put on my car. For many years now we've only bought all season tires, but now, between my husband and me, we have one car that has snow tires-- for those times when staying home isn't an option.

@pearlsngems that’s a smart move, we just got a (new to us) car last year and despite the tires being in good shape I was slipping and sliding all over during the last storm. Maybe I’ll have DH look into some snow tires.

I am in central Ohio and its have been sleeting and freezing rain since I got up at 4:00 am EST and its currently 2:00 pm EST, we are still suppose to get 4-8" of snow on top of this crap sometime starting this evening...you all east of us be prepared...its very nasty, havent seen anything like this since the ice storm in 2004

My kids are rubbing their hands that Friday will be a snow, which I find funny as they're in high school now. They morph into meteorologists to present arguments as to how morning snowfall rph would impact commutes. Of course their dad says, "I will be working from home that day, and we have studded snows!" just to set them off.
* Ugh, we'll see what comes up to Maine but it's going to be a right mess with the mixed precip.

A dusting of snow on the mountains with a cloud stuck on top

Where I live, the law says we must install real snow tires as of Dec. 1 st every year. Four- season tires are NOT acceptable.

Hubby and I have been using 4 snow tires on our cars for years, well before the law came into effect. Much better performance than all-season tires, which are not really adequate in heavy snow or icy conditions. Both our cars are all-wheel drive as well.

We live in eastern Canada, so this is not at all unusual.

But for those who live in an area that rarely sees snow, it’s understandable that that would usually be overkill. Except maybe now…

9:16 p.m. here in Massachusetts and its still rain, no snow or sleet. Not sure what it will be like in the a.m. but the forecast seems to say it will still be in the high 30's or low 40's. Seems to drop below freezing in the afternoon tomorrow and then snow on Saturday.

P.S. I haven't had snow tires since getting all wheel drive (on a sedan, not SUV) and haven't needed them. I used to get them when I had front wheel drive.

Started snowing here yesterday early afternoon. Snowed all night and still snowing now. Temp is -10 C.

Sleet and freezing rain here now as the temperature plummets to what they say will be about 20 degrees overnight but no wind. Just ice.

In south central CT we just got rain, and it's not cold enough to freeze.

An all rain event here.
Temps were in the 40s then 30s.
Today they are well below freezing.
So be careful everyone. There might be ice on the streets and roads.

All the lakes and ponds are frozen over and even the bay has ice floating in it. It is cold. Brrrr
