A Nor'easter Is Coming!

Oh my gosh, you're so petite that's almost missy deep. That's how I'll think about snow depth from now on -- can I see missy's head, if not, the snow is waaaay too missy deep.

Maybe we should send missy a periscope.jq.png

South central CT here and 14-18" predicted. I estimate 12" or so have fallen at this point.

It's cold and windy! I've already been outside several times today. It was necessary to shovel snow away from our walkout basement door, which otherwise quickly becomes unable to be opened. I also wanted to refill the bird feeders, which have been mobbed all day. I like to scatter some seeds on and under our picnic table as well, for the mourning doves, which are flat surface feeders. The squirrels usually join them but today they have not visited at all.

I'm so grateful that the power hasn't gone out. In addition to having an electric stove we also have an electric well pump-- so when there's a power outage we don't have water to flush with, wash with or drink! :???: Before every storm I fill large pots and basins with water, just in case, and always have bottled water on hand.
We are warm and safe indoors. Tomorrow we'll power up the snowblower and clear the snow away.

A huge red tail hawk spent several hours in a fir tree in our back yard. Gorgeous!

@missy Do you still have snow blowing in your doors? :oops2:

No more snow in the exercise room woohoo. I guess Greg's fix worked. Finally lol.
Hope S finishes his shoveling and comes in soon.

The kitties are pissed because Chewy was a no show.

PSA FYI:

"Our Fire Company warns you that tonight’s blizzard brings unusual Carbon Monoxide Danger, different than our normal storms. Tonight’s storm potential snow depth and high winds will possibly be blocking your heating system combustion exhaust vents which will increase your family’s risk of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Please think about your neighbors. Check to make sure their vents are clear. Maybe if they're older, ask if you can help to clear them."

Stay safe everyone! prayers outgoing

I do miss those big northeast snowstorms -- for years, I lived on Long Island, in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and on the New Hampshire seacoast. I'm in the Bay Area now and dream about moving back East at least twice a week. Sending toasty thoughts to you all, and especially to those kitties, @missy ! 8)

HI:

STAY SAFE!!!! I totally hate the cold, winds, and snow.

cheers--Sharon

There is a path for the ferals to the feeder.

But they aren't crazy enough to come out in this weather. Hopefully when the storm is over they will make their way to the food.

Your the best cat momma missy (and daddy too)
I don't know how to catch our wild tom cat from behind the shed but i worry about him in the cold and rain - nothing does miserable like a long haired cat
But im pretty sure they are smart enough to know how to stay warm and dry, i think he just gets wet walking through the grass
i saw this thing on Netflix? And it showed cats in the snow with thermo imiging and they are pretty good at keeping warm
and im sure a stray/ferrel who has been enjoying regular meals is much better off

Stay safe and warm in the storm
i don't know how you good people do it but you are hardy

i wish i could send you 10 degreee as im too hot of late (would 10 degrees C help?)
Ive have been getting a bit of heat exhaustion walking home from work even though im drinking lots of water and im over it !
Even with the aircon at work its basically at oven in that place and there is no shade between home and work
If i could, i would bring you soup
i love soup and its the one thing im good enough at to want to shear

Sometimes its like you guys live on a completely different planet !
We would die in that sort of cold

Everybody hunker down and stay safe and warm

Anything above a cm is way too much
And this is waaaaaaay toooooo much
How do you cope ???
I guess experience and preparation and lots of winter woolies

I just heard our morning weather forecast. This morning our town is supposed to be 7 degrees F. Tomorrow morning (this always catches my attention) it will supposedly be -1 degree F (-18.33 C). We get negative temperatures here, but it is rare. This is not Canada, Minnesota, or Maine. I notice it when the the thermometer dips below zero F (-17.77 C). I have to shovel this morning, so I am putting on long underwear under my jeans and shirts.

Here's a Boston plowman and some area locals:
The coasts of several states got hammered with the winds in this storm, inland it was just wintah.
It was just a blizzard up here in Maine, many a child lamenting it happened on a Saturday, what a waste of a perfectly good snow day.
I hope everyone stayed safe and that damage was minimal!

My best friend lives in Maine, which is where her husband is from. When they moved there from Connecticut, their dogs grew thicker coats of fur. Some were Malamutes, but even the Valhunds got much thicker coats. I think only the Pit Bull didn't really grow a protective coat!

We had a Lab who would grow this wavy mane hair on his back in winter. He loved snow. It was an event when he'd blow his coat in Spring. The birds loved it, anyhow. Our other dog is a mixed shorthair(cur) and she has her coat that she loves and you have to convince her to take off! Sometimes when it was really cold(subzero) they'd allow us to put their snow booties on- but that's a last resort in their minds!

...
PS. On the upside, a *very* nice looking man just brought me scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage in bed, with a cup of coffee! Life is good. :))
So, your husband's away on business? :Up_to_something:

Sharing a few post Nor'easter photos.
We got about 12-14". Not bad.

Security camera captured yesterday AM as the storm was just getting going.

How is everyone else doing?
How much snow did you get?

I'm glad you all did well during this and continue to do so! I still have lots of memories of power outtages due to blizzards, sitting in front of the fireplace and letting that wind just howl. (not much you could do anyway)

Its been riduculous as far as cold in South FL and Miami got to below 40. Not normal by any means! about 60 miles north of me, Vero Beach tied their record low of 30F. I saw a few felled Iguanas. Nobody was touching that...lol

Add to the complication the other's a lot of houses without heat down here.

We got somewhere around 12” maybe a bit more, hard to tell with the snow drifts. Luckily we didn’t lose power and are all shoveled out today :D

Another big one on the way?

Inland CT on Friday the roads are expected to be icy all day, according to wtnh.

Fingers crossed it isn't as bad as they are predicting.

So far for us mainly a rain event but it depends on the temperature.

We shall see. Stay warm and safe everyone.

Some photos of what the Nor'easter last week left us with. Despite the warmish temps the snow isn't totally gone yet. It is very pretty I have to admit.

So far only rain here too. Stay safe everyone and be careful on icy roads

Ugh, I have to work tomorrow (just started this job last month) and I’m terrified of driving in the snow and ice. I know, I know, I live in New England and this is part of the deal but I can’t help it.

That leaves me trying to figure out a way to get there without using our car (my main fear is having an accident) so Uber or I can try to walk but it is a LONG walk. I can’t even stomach having DH drive me because again the main fear is having an accident with our car.

Sorry to be all me, me, me but I just had to get this off my chest :nono:

@YadaYadaYada
I know, it's scary.
Be safe and trust your DH to drive you there!

When I lived in PA I used to risk my life to get to work.
This is the intersection in front of my house.
It's a well traveled secondary road.
I texted the pic to my boss, and he said to stay home! Yay!
There are accidents everywhere, an ambulance just went by seconds ago.
