lisamarie,
this is pretty much the exact same ring I amconsidering getting.
However, if I may ask a vulgar question? ...How much did Leon quote you for the plain solitaire? just because i asked for a quote in 18k gold, so i''m wondering if its the same as in plat?

if you don''t feel to tell me I understand

btw, congrats and awesome taste!

"$1600 for labor" but his labor quotes include the metal. was your quote close? i don't know how much of the cost is in the metal.

thank you

Hi lisa,
yes exactly the same - which is what I thought is kind of strange, seeing as I want gold not plat. and considering the huge price diff between th 2. But oh well, I guess most of the cost is for the labour then..?
Did you choose single claw or did he insist on it for your size stone?

Also, do you know what you will do for a wedding ring yet?

Sorry for all the questions hon!

Interesting...you inspired me to do some research. A standard wedding ring weights about 3-4 grams, which is about 1/10 of an ounce. So roughly for materials, about $100 for gold, $200 for platinum. Pretty minimal difference, I would say, in comparison to the overall cost. It seems that most jewelers will base their price on gold, and then charge extra for working with platinum. In Leon's case, he bases his price on platinum and apparently does not discount his labor for working with gold.

I chose single claw since I don't think my stone is big enough for double. I think Leon insisted on single claws for diamondseeker2006's 1.6 carat beauty.

I don't mind the questions at all! I think for the band I'm going to get a Tiffany Novo. The Novo engagement ring was actually my first love so I think getting the wedding band would be perfect. I also figure that with the pave, it would be easier for me to take my ring to Tiffany if any stones come loose. I adore this Leon though, and it's in my size:

shes just lovely....cant wait to see her in a her new home!!!

It is a really beautiful stone! I think the Novo band is a beautiful choice to go with it, too!

I totally agree about the metals prices being close because so little metal is really involved. I think Leon seems more honest in pricing than do some companies who make platinum settings double the cost of 18k!

Yeah, good point. I guess I''m just so used to hearing people discussing stuff being double or more for plat. But I agree with yourself and DS, this actually seems like a more transparent and consistent pricing structure.

re the wedding band, are you concerned about the "not sitting flush" thing, or are you happy tpo have the gap between your rings like DS''s set? (again, lurrve it!)

Gorgeous stone! And I agree, going in a gorgeous home.

Can''t wait to see it!

Lisa, WOW, what an amazing stone! I can''t wait to see it when it is set in the classic! It will be absolutely stunning!! When do you expect to receive it, about 6 weeks from now? Is that his usual timeframe? Oh, I am so excited for you, it is going to look incredibe!

Leon addresses this on his website, actually. If you go to "Pricing" and then "Metals," he says, "Intricate pieces are so much easier to work with in platinum, that any savings of metal cost would be canceled by extra labor cost. Only heavy, solid pieces (i.e. gypsy rings, mini-sculptures, etc.) worth considering the use of substitute metals."

WOW! She looks WAY bigger than a .94! Beautiful stone!

The stone is stunning. A firecracker! Can''t wait to see it set - I''ve always wondered what a stone around a carat would look like in that gorgeous Leon setting. I''m sure it will be beautiful but it''s been hard to picture will all these enormous Leon/ stones on PS. I think your stone is a perfect size. (I''m contemplating the same thing but for either an asscher or EC... can''t decide.)

Congratulations! Very exciting.

WOW, she''s beautiful and I can''t wait to see her set!!

Thanks everyone! I''d really love to post pictures once it comes back but I''m not allowed to see the finished ring until the proposal "sometime in 2008."

FYI, Gwendolyn, Leon quoted me 3-4 weeks. Not that it matters to me anyway.

I know, right? But to be fair, I did totally take over the entire ring purchasing process, so this is his only way of maintaining some element of surprise. I did tell him that if he made me wait until New Years Eve, I''d murder him though!

I hear you, Lisamarie
31.gif
! I definitely took over the ring purchasing too; it was just all so fascinating I had to be involved! My fiance proposed pretty much right after we got the it, probably because he was afraid for his life
12.gif
, but I completely understand that yours wants to surprise you; it will just make it that much more romantic! (the stone is absolutely STUNNING and looks HUGE btw). I can''t wait to see it set!
