That is a beautiful diamond, and it looks lovely in that setting, but I am surprised to hear that the setting is from 1899. Are you sure your friend''s aunt didn''t have the diamond reset later? That square head looks like a style that was popular in the 20th century--perhaps the 1940s or 50s. It doesn''t look at all 1890s to me.

I could be wrong, of course.

Thank you Dannielle, Mscushion, Beechezz, Princessplease, MC, Purselove, Tlh, Omieluv, Musey, BKMommy, Somthingshiny and Glitterata.

Glitterata, I don’t know if someone in her family had it reset. The wedding band has the date engraved in it; it is always possible but my friend believes it is the original ring.

I''m glad she''s leaving it like it is. It''s spectacular!

Thanks Kelli. It is a very pretty ring.

WOW! That ring is amazing. I would love to have an heirloom ring like that. I have a vintage ring myself, from my great aunt, but it''s not that old. The diamond is a modern brilliant cut. Not sure what year mine was purchased originally, but she was in her 80''s when she passed a couple years ago. The setting kind of looks like tacori.

Thank you Aida1010. I just saw your great aunt''s ring. It is lovely.

Thanks for sharing! Love the ring. Very unique and pretty.

Thank you Tigian.

Gorgeous Marcy, it is really beautiful. Thank you for taking pictures of you friends ring and sharing it with us.

Thank you Linda. I knew I had to share this beauty with the rest of us diamond, gemstone and jewelry fans.

Glitterata totally took the words out of my mouth. The setting looks late 1940s to me, with an older diamond in it. Quite pretty and simple. Cool!

Marcy, this ring is so interesting and absolutely beautiful! I''d love to have one like it someday (I have an absurdly long wish-list

I agree with Glitterata and LittleGreyKitten. The setting looks identical to my mom's 1950 e-ring. Link It was probably a reset after about 50 years of use in the original setting. As for the engraving, when I got my 25th anniversary upgrade, we reproduced the original wedding date into it. I'm thinking that may have been done here as well.

Nice ring. I have a soft spot for that look.
