Not too long ago we ran into this lil guy. It was around a 1/2ct or so but one of those rare occasions where you find a ruby crystal inside of a diamond. :read:

Cool, a ruby not a garnet?
Did a lab identify the red gem?

Set it and sell it as a ruby ring with a diamond bezel.

It's like a wee valentines day heart. Love it!! :appl:

:wavey:

That's very cool.

It IS heart shaped!! And super duper coolper!

Thats amazing, I know some gem collectors pay alot of money for those stones.

Amazing!!!

I don't know if it's cool or i feel sorry for it :P

I'm curious tho, why would the cutter do that? What does it look like from a normal distance?

Already sold actually. Shortly after we got this I had posted it on Facebook and it went almost immediately. I believe it was lab graded but I'll have to dig through the records to identify. The crystal didn't show the color of garnet. Not sure if garnet was or has been discovered in diamond before.

YES! That was one of the first things I immediately noted about the crystal. It had it's own natural heart shape which I thought was super coolper. :rodent:

There will be a next time hopefully.

Very cool! That would make for a very romantic gift!

Love it  and the pink- red reflection it gives off inside the diamond. It should be called heart included :rodent:

That is AWESOME. I wish I'd gotten to snatch that up. I was slow on the draw. THAT is an I1 I could dig.

really interesting find

That diamond had me searching my couch for lose change.
It sold within 20 min after it was posted on FB as I remember it.

Wow!! I didn't know this could happen -- so cool... Can anyone explain how this occurs? It's very interesting... :read:

The diamond grew around it.
It is very common for other diamonds(crystal) to be grown around but garnet and ruby are more rare in otherwise gem grade material.
I wonder if anyone has a list of all know materials found inside diamonds.

Hmm... What's the element that turns corundum red, therefore into a ruby? Is it the same thing that makes makes a diamond turn brown?

Chromium
no, browns are either nitrogen or crystal defects or both.

I'd love to have snagged that one up, it's really cool. What was the color grade? Can you tell about how much it was sold for?
