After a bit of thinking, I decided to get a madeira citrine from Doug at Bespoke Gems for my first project.
Here she is! It's a 7 x 9 mm, 1.35 carat pear.
Sorry about the smudge on the stone. I had it on my hand, ready to walk outdoors to take the photo when I dropped the citrine. My heart leapt and I scrambled round the floor for a minute on hands and knees trying to find it, and in the process, put some prints on it.

Anyway, I hope you like - it's my first foray into colored stones.

Congratulations on the start of a new addiction!

I think you did very well for a first stone - it is a great color :appl:

You can't go wrong with Bespoke or citrine. Doug cuts are wonderful. Congrats! My pair of Bespoke citrines are in my new stone thread if you want to see them. :appl: :appl:

congratulations! I still remember my first stone! It was a tanga garnet cut by Barry. Oh how my bank account has become depleted since then!

Welcome to the world of CS- your citrine is gorgeous!

Now, I actually bought a white gold halo semi mount off it ebay for it.
I'm not normally a WG person, but thought I would experiment and the going price was good.
But... do you think this citrine is calling out for yellow gold or can I get away with the WG?

Lovely, congrats on starting on your first project!

Nice stone!
I love looking at Doug's website... lots of beautifully cut stones to drool over.

Citrines generally look better in yellow gold although some might be fine in white gold. My heart dropped when I read about your dropping the stone. I’m glad that it wasn’t chipped or damaged. Do be careful in handling it and only over a soft padded surface.

Lovely, Supers! Which setting did you buy?

I'll just let you know now; my coloured gemstone craze all started with my Madiera Citrine project back in 2006 or 2007 I think, so I can't wait to see your completed piece!

My Madiera is in a 3 stone with white gold, and if I had to do it alll over again, I would have had my jeweler make a yellow gold basket for the citrine. Just thought I'd echo Chrono's suggestion because I've already done it the way that I thought would make it more wearable to me (I used to never wear any yellow gold and wasn't a two-tone fan), and ended up emphasizing the brown in it by setting it in white.

It is a beautiful stone and a very nice cut.

Ah, ok, so it sounds as though YG is the preferred setting for a citrine.
Back to the drawing board then...

The semi mount I bought was this http://cgi.ebay.com.au/46CT-SOLID-14K-W-GOLD-DIAMOND-SETTING-SEMI-RING-MOUNT-/400172008308?pt=Wedding_Sets&hash=item5d2c1c4374

If you've already bought it, what about just having the halo made in yellow gold; or even just the prongs/basket like this one; http://cgi.ebay.com/Pear-5-7mm-SOLID-14kT-TWO-GOLD-DIAMOND-SEMI-MOUNT-RING-/270665233291?pt=Diamond_Three_Stone_Rings&hash=item3f04e7b38b#ht_4058wt_1139

Yummo! What a lovely stone with such a rich colour. Can't go wrong with Bespoke gems...
