A Christmas Miracle! I Found MY Georg Jensen!

I do not want to make light of this wonderful holiday, which I happen to celebrate, and I hesitated before using the word, "miracle" and the word, "Christmas" together about a matter as trivial as jewelry. I hope that I have not offended anyone; as I said, I, personally, celebrate this holiday for more than commercial reasons.

I had misplaced items that my late mother gave me that had great value to me sentimentally. I was not sure whether they were in one state or another. As I posted in another thread, although I now live in Connecticut, I used to live in Virginia. I am in Virginia for a few days for a doctor's appointment and I had a chance, this time, to look for the Georg Jensen items.

After a search of the cellar bedroom where all the Christmas ornaments are kept in boxes as are linens and other miscellaneous items, I decided to tear apart my old desk. Sure enough, behind an old yellow folder that my daughter had brought home from elementary school (but was now stuffed with papers about diamonds) were two ancient cardboard boxes with some old Georg Jensen things in them.

I really do not have much and it is not super valuable, but finding out about it here on Pricescope was wonderful, and when I lost it I was unsettled.

I will attach a link to the thread where I discovered these items.

That is great! Jensen silver is gorgeous, specially when there is an emotional side to it.

Yay! That's really great to hear. Very happy for you!

Hey, Deb, terrific! I'm so glad they turned up. (Love the part about the envelope now stuffed with papers on diamonds. :sun: )

Any chance you can snap a pic or two of them? I'd love to see them!

That is fantastic! I think finding a beloved heirloom thought lost definitely qualifies as a Christmas miracle!

Good for you! That is great news. :appl:

I just bought my first Georg Jensen piece this year, an acorn pattern pie server. It is very old, with the first mark he ever used. I found it on ebay. I wanted an extra special cake cutter for family celebrations and something to pass on.

It shows mark number 1 on this page: http://www.925-1000.com/jensen_marks.html

It must be fairly common, here's another on ebay, but with a later mark.

I don't buy Georg Jensen jewelry because I'm afraid I'd get addicted to it! Your earrings are extra graceful and sweet, you're lucky to have those lovely pieces. :appl:

Good news - so glad you found these pieces! You must be both relieved and happy!

That IS a Christmas miracle Circe! So glad that you found the pieces! I'd love to see photos when you have the time!

I'm an idiot! I meant AGBF! I had just read Circe's thread about aging parents, my apologies!

...and I'm a Freudian. So I am complimented that you "accidentally" called me "Circe" since "there are no accidents." ;)) If you are going to have a parapraxis there is no one I would rather you confuse me with. With whom I would rather have you confuse me.

Hugs,
Deb

Well, as you may know if you looked at the thread I linked to, iLander, I started off my venture with Georg Jensen owning his flatware since my mother divided her modest number of settings and gave half to me and half to my brother. Therefore it is natural that I greatly admire your Georg Jensen pie server!!!

We were supposed to start a thread on sterling flatware!!!

Definitely, Laurie. As soon as I get back to Connecticut where I have a camera. Before they disappear again! Do you remember that we were supposed to start a thread on sterling flatware? Maybe after Christmas we can do that!

That is great news, Deb!!!! I don't think there is a better feeling in the world than something lost that is found!!!!

Touché and LOL!

Love the pie server, Deb. And the pin with the leaves & vine-y stems. Okay, let's do flatware after the holidays. I looked up auction values on mine, that I inherited from my mother, and was sad to see it hasn't appreciated in value from when she got it appraised about 25 yrs ago. Demand has probably decreased dramatically -- brides rarely ask for sterling; nobody wants to bother polishing it. I don't mind toiling away because it's so beautiful when shined up, especially the old stuff with a patina. I also have some very pretty holloware from the Old Folks.

Have a good trip back!

YAY! I hate that feeling of misplacing something and *knowing* it is somewhere... but where?? I'm so glad you found your missing treasures and now you can use them again. WOo hoo!!

Now your mind can rest and you can finally enjoy using the pieces again :appl:

That is wonderful news Deb. I'm so happy you found them!!! :appl:

it is like getting them all over again!
glad you found them, Deb.

HI:

I am very happy for you! Wear them in health and happiness!

cheers--Sharon

I do, too, but I just wanted to remind you that the pie server is Ilander's. In the thread in which diamondseeker and I showed a bit of sterling flatware (and you were showing your absolutely astounding collection of hollowware) you kept confusing my (Virginia) dining room and with diamondseeker's! (I have to admit that they are not dissimilar!) In Connecticut I live in squalor, so I don't post photos of anything. I don't have a dining room here. Or a garage, either.

Many apologies, iLander, Deb, & DS! I read too fast & don't re-check before hitting Submit. Blushing. (I still like the pie server!)

Squalor? Deb, I want to ditch a dining room in our next, final, house-that-I'll-have-to-be-carried-out-of-feet-first. We use ours once or twice a year & it's just more space to clean.

No, problem at all, Laurie! I obviously missed the confusion as I have been out of town this weekend!

Deb, I am so happy you found your missing GJ pieces! You know, there just may be other treasures hiding in that basement!

Yes, we were going to do sterling and china pattern threads. My main problem was just never taking the pictures needed to start a thread! But hopefully we'll eventually get around to doing so!

diamondseeker-

The thread in which we promised to post photos of our china and (I think) our flatware was not recent. I am sorry if I misled you! Here is a link to the thread in which we promised to do all that posting, "after the holidays" (but it wasn't the 2013-14 holidays and we never did it)!

Deb -- An addendum to that former thread. Having some spare time a couple weeks ago, I peered at the hallmarks on my candlesticks (these):

and spent an hour online. Found they are sterling, were made by a company called Robert Pringle & Sons in Sheffield, in 1881. Amazing what you can find on the internet when you're bored! I've wondered about them since DH gave them to me, before the web existed. Fun to know.

I'm sorry I never responded to this posting before, Laurie. It is wonderful that these candlesticks are sterling. I already envied you your enormous sterling hollowware collection! I have sterling flatware, but not hollowware and I read with great envy about the pieces that some of you women inherited. One woman (I wish I could recall who) posted about inheriting two complete tea or coffee services from her two grandmothers! (I think I remember that she sold them because she thought she wouldn't use them! I could never have done that!)

I took pictures today of my mother's small Georg Jensen accessory collection. When I did I noticed that I am still missing one pin that I photographed for Pricescope a few years back. I hope it eventually turns up. This is the missing one.

I may start a new thread about the Georg Jensen accessories.
