8* was cut with 2 design goals, show the arrows as much as possible, edge to edge brightness.
Like anything in life you cant do that without compromise.
The compromises are 2:
Show the arrows to much and the arrow shafts make the under the table area dark a lot of the time.
That is the payment for showing the arrows.
Painting compromises one/off scintillation because of the narrow angle range between the upper girdle facets and kite facets and you lose contrast which is an important part of scintillation.
Here is no painting....
