.75 carat diamond - .12 point sides too large??

I have been a lurker for a long time while my bf and I have been ring shopping. We finally have decided on a style but one jeweler has made me nervous regarding the side stones. I really like the blingly look and want lots if sparkles but I am not a fan of halo. So I have picked out a beautiful setting for my round .75 stone but the sides are .12 pointers round that graduate into .10. My dilemma is to go with this or .10 pointers that graduate. I love it but a few jewlers have commented that it will drown out my diamond. Especially since I want my wedding band to be .10 I tried it on with a fake .75 diamond however the prongs currently were too big so the diamond sank down. It is hard to get an idea if whether it will drown out.
Can anyone post pics or give opinions on larger than average side stones??
thank you so much!
Ps I attached the ring but note it is sunken and wayy zoomed in.
It is pictured with a wedding band of about .08

This is really just a matter of what your eyes prefer - but for what it is worth, I do agree with your jewelers that 0.10-0.12 point sides will serve to downplay your center stone. If you wish your center stone to be the highlight of your ER, I'd suggest at the most going with 0.07-0.08 points graduating down to 0.05 points, with your WB also being 0.05 points.

Here's a thread showing a PSer's 0.75ct solitaire with a 0.05 point WB - you can see by the pics that the set is blingy but the ER does stand out - and of course your set will be even blingier if your ER has graduated .05-.07 point side-stones, but your center stone will still be the highlight. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/signed-pieces-eternity-ring-is-here.25738/

(This is just my personal opinion... I definitely believe you should choose the ER setting that best reflects your taste and lifestyle, and if the larger graduating sidestones is your dream - Go for it!)

Thank you so much for your input! I loved it was harder to envision with the cz sunken in the prongs. I definitely love the sparkle of a ring more so than the exact size of the stone. I also have a 4.5 size finger so it does look a teeny bit bigger anyway. I wish I didn't have second thoughts now!

I think I will agree that .10's will overwhlem what you want to accentuate. Have you considered a graduated 5 stone? That could look really nice!

This is a 11.6 sides. Just to get an idea for size again. Not that style and note the cz is sunken in like the other pic. image_316.jpg

Thre's a graduated 5 stone in this thread page (the 5 stone ring thread). I was looking for Hawaiianorangetree's ring because it is my favorite 5 stone. It's in there somewhere. beautiful trellis setting.

ETA- Here's HOT's trellis 5 stone:

I would go with 5 pointers if you want a blingy but, IMO, proportional look.

Then if you need more, you can get a blingy wedding band.

I'm in agreement with the .12's being too large and have the potential to overwhelm your .75 centre stone. That's a good size diamond so to enhance it and make it the centre of attention, I'd drop the pave down to .05's, if it were me. You could accent with 2 x .05 WB's if you'd prefer more bling.

Roxy did that look - search her SMTB thread and you'll probably really like that look!

I too think the .12s are too large. The .05s would be more proportionl to the .75. You have such a small finger, even going down in sidestone size will look blingy. I agree that with that setting, you could stack another band with your set.

Thanks so much everyone! On my way to a jeweler now to try some of your ideas and take more pictures!

Definitely 5 pointers max. The larger they are, the smaller it makes the center stone appear. I wouldn't even do 10 point stones in the shank with a 2 ct diamond.

I think they would be too large and detract from your beautiful diamond. What did you like at the jeweler?

I tried on a bunch. This is mine with .7

Which I really like. I don't want .12 anymore I still think I'd like .10 though. My boyfriend loves the .12 now!

I really like this actually, plain solitaire with larger pointers in the band

This is more pleasing ti MY eye; but only your opinion matters. Is this your .75 stone? It looks larger in the plan solitaire with the blingy band.

ditto. If that is your stone in the pic, I think this is the combination that makes your stone look the most impressive, and also is blingy. Very pretty combination. It actually looks visually larger than the 1ct stone sitting in the blingy band sitting in the simpler setting. The blingy ering setting really diminishes the diamond size of that 1ct being with the melee being so large. I'd agree with everyone else and if you are looking for bling in the e-ring band- go for something with much smaller melee and pair with the a wedding band with larger stones.

I might even say instead of resetting your stone, leave it in a solitaire and pop a band like that on either side. Just as much belong and will cost you about the same bit will be more flattering to your stone

I know this thread is several months old, but with the holidays approaching I wondered if the OP and her bf had made a decision on the rings? I love the look of eternity bands so I just had to ask and of course I was hoping for more pretty pics to gush over ;) !

Enerchi: Thank you SO MUCH for the compliment about my rings! I hadn’t planned to wear 3 eternities, except for special occasions, but the way they’re designed to “nestle” together (vs sitting side by side) really made a difference (who knew? :? ). It’s been a while since I’ve been able to visit PS, so I was surprised to see this and just had to drop a note to say THANKS. Now I'm off to catch up on the other threads and see what everyone's been up to. Oh how I've missed the neverending bling bling bling  !!
