Hi Guys,

I have just purchased a 1.38 carat "60:60" diamond with the following characteristics:

Table: 60%
Depth: 59.7%
Crown: 34.0"
Pavillion: 40.8"
Culet: 0%

Now, this diamond receives an HCA score of 1.6 and falls within the top grade of cut for both GIA and AGS.

My question is this, should this be a good quality cut DESPITE the fact that it is a "60:60" stone? Should one only be worried about it being 60:60 if the GIA/AGS cut grades are not top notch?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

60:60 is just a different look - my understanding is that it is likely to reflect more white light than 'fire', so it is not inherently 'bad', it is just personal taste :)

If it is GIA XXX and AGS000 and has an HCA score <2, I think it is safe to say that it will perform well - an ASETscope image will confirm for definite, of course!

I love stones with these numbers. It is the same style as msop04's 60/60.

Thanks for the replies.

I guess it is easy to read through previous 6060 posts and begin to think that they will almost ALL certainly be "sub par" cuts.

Or maybe it is just the fact that the vast majority of 6060's out there don't fall into good cut grades. For example, there is only a very small "sweet spot" combinations for 6060's when you look at the AGS matrix for these type of stones.

60/60 can be a lot of things, including great. Facet precision/optical symmetry is a big factor. The measurements mentioned are averaged and rounded. As OoohShiny advised above, ASET images help develop a much fuller understanding.

Very true and an awful shame.
THere's NOTHING intrinsically wrong with 60/60- in fact, I have made the case countless times that a smaller table, higher depth could easily be seen as the compromise.
