Just read another blog and someone linked to a story that says: The family wanted their balloon seen by the world so they made up the story.

Finding link now...

Wow

I hope that''s not true, and if it is, that the family has to reimburse the emergency responders/personnel and the National Guard for the hassle!

Are you f''ing kidding me? It was a publicity stunt???? I hope they''re fined for this...a lot! How sick.
No words.......

The link was disabled... looks like it wasn''t a true lead.

The last I read, they think the boy is hiding because he knows he''s in BIG trouble. I hope that''s true (that he''s alive and safe, just hiding).

I find that hard to believe. How can a 6 year old know that? If anything, maybe his parents are hiding him. But I dont think a 6 year old has the ability to think this far.

I imagine that he knew he wasn''t supposed to let the balloon loose for sure - I''d have been hiding if I let loose my parents big project and it just blew away!

I hope he''s hiding out afraid of a spanking, though.

Are you kidding? If I was 6 and I knew the nat''l guard was looking for me I''d be hiding myself too lol
kids are more intelligent than people give them credit for...

Also, looking at how the balloon is swaying in the wind, no way could the boy have been on it. Where are this kid''s parents?!!!

He has 7 and 8 yr old brothers, and apparently one of them was outside at the time with the youngest... they could have let it go accidently, and it turned into a, "How do we save our butts moment?". (ie, Hide the smallest and make up a lie) Especially once the police were involved. I know as a kid, I thought the police were the scariest thing in the world.

I shook and cried when I accidently dialed 911 and they called back.

If it's the kids, I'm sure they will fess up very shortly.

I''m sorry, I find it hard to believe the kid is hiding somewhere for over an hour, while his parents are frantically hunting for him because he''s afraid of the national guard. Makes zero sense to me.

Yeah, definitely possible. Although according to the articles here, the boy is the middle kid. So the oldest one needs to answer some serious questions right now.

I dunno, I just know as a kid if I knew I was in trouble I wouldn''t go looking for everyone who wanted to punish me, that''s all...he may not even know people thought he was in the balloon, maybe he thinks he will just get in trouble for letting it go

Just reported:
They are now searching for him in his neighborhood after determining the balloon had not actually been opened for him to get in...
"Maybe he is just scared and is not ready to be found yet"

I had a feeling....

the kid''s not going to keep up some huge ruse while the entire nation is following the story, including law enforcement..come on. And where would he hide, under the sink?

my one thought remains, what is the deal with these parents?? Kids playing with random contraption that can fly and they are unaware and it''s the other sibling that has to recount what happened?

Well I don''t think he will hide indefinitely obviously but I do think it will be an hour or so before they find him is all..

i don't think 6 yr olds have the attention span for that..

sadly my guess is either 1) parents are screwballs and haven't given all information or 2)boy fell out and will be located shortly (hopefully ok..but not likely)

i guess we''ll find out soon huh

I am thinking the parents are behind this some how... I know at 6, I wouldn''t be able to hide for that long.... It''s been hours now!!!

And they were on Wifeswap?? I dunno, something smells.

I just want the kid to be ok. I had my heart in my hands watching this unfold on TV....

If it is some kind of publicity stunt, again, I will say

I have no words.....

Then they will have to investigate the parents...

Storm chasers?? Fine for you, but your kids??
32.gif

I would no more want my kids to know what it''s like to be in a hurricane... That''s why he built this in the first place......

Methinks, there is a heck of a lot more to this story........

One article I read, said that the parents saw the figure of the balloon go over the house while they were eating.

These people are professional storm chasers... you would think they would have followed that thing like a hawk immediately and seen if the boy had fallen out. Right?

It just seems impossible that the boy was ever in the balloon, especially considering the "cock-pit" is made of plywood. There''s no way that would have stayed attached if a 40-50 lb child was in? No?

I had a feeling....

I was gonna say.....
If he was inside and fell out, the door would be open.
If he just laid on top of the balloon, he would have fallen off almost immediately.
BOTH options would require that someone else untie the balloon.

I hope that if he was on top and fell off that he is okay, but I''m starting to think that he was never on it/in it in the first place.

What a mess! I''m glad that the boy is likely safe and sound (wherever he is), but I think the parents are probably behind this in one way or another. Things sound a little bit bizarre. I mean they pull their kids out of school to chase storms?!

Ditto!

I heard on our news that a bottom portion of the structure from under the balloon is missing...evidently, if he HAD climbed in, possibly that part came off, him with it. And it wasn''t the boy''s parents who saw the balloon taking off, it was the neighbors.

And believe me, 6 year old boys CAN hide very well and for a long time...I just hope he is safe.

A lot of schools in Colorado have taken days off because of crazy flu outbreaks...it''s possible he went to one of those schools. Or maybe he is homeschooled?

Here is why he wasn''t in school, posted on msnbc :)

He was home from school because there was no school today in his school district. I believe it was a teacher/staff day.

CNN''s saying an officer saw something fall from the balloon.

This isn''t looking good. I really hope he''s hiding somewhere.

I''ve been following this story all day, praying they find this boy alive. I just found this picture on another website I''ve been following...

oh no! i hope that picture is photoshopped

was it a news channel?

I just don''t see a 6 year old hiding for 3 hours, without being found.

I''m HOPING that he''s hiding. My gut doesn''t think so.
