5 pointer on tennis bracelet too dainty?

Hi everyone.
I'm looking to get a custom made tennis bracelet for myself for an everyday bracelet, with my budget my jeweller said he could made me a tennis bracelet with each diamond being 5 pointers.
Do you all think that it would be too dainty?
Does anyone have any pictures of how small a 5 pointer diamond would look like?

Thanks in advance! :)

This is a bracelet I had made to wear as an "every day" bracelet. It is made with 7 pointers and is 4.27cttw. I have to admit there are some days that I wish I had gone with bigger stones but overall it is a nice size. 5 pointers will make a very delicate line of sparkle. Are you doing prong set which would show a little more of the stone?

Thanks for the pictures Catmom!
The bracelet looks goregous.
I'm thinking of going 3 or 4 prong although jeweller suggested 4 prong for a fuller look and for safety as I want to wear it regularly.
The total carat weight will be 3ctw.

I'm just worried it will look too dainty even though I don't want huge diamonds as I want an everyday bracelet.

Hi! I'm new to PS, been a lurker for a month and have been completely captivated by the diamond culture of this forum. I'm so impressed with the knowledge and generosity of the frequent and regular posters (you know who you are :appl: )

catmom, you have such wonderful pictures of your jewelry! Love, love.

OP, I recently purchased a tennis bracelet and originally was looking for a delicate look too 2-3 cttw. I decided the 3 prong look had a chevron appearance and broke up the look of all diamonds (to my eyes, imho) and I finally realized I wanted a classic look that never goes out of style as this will likely be my one and only forever tennis bracelet. I don't think that's too small, it's really great for an every day luxury look, especially if you take care to get the white (G/H) or better, sparkliest stones (which I'm sure you are since it's a custom piece). I saw many types of clasps, I'd just say to try to get the smallest, dainty clasp that's very secure (with a good discrete safety). Since I'm new to PS, I don't know how to do pictures, but I'll try later to show mine. I saw many bracelets while I was looking, and the one I bought had the best smallest, discreet safety and clasp. When clasped, it only locks the 2 adjacent stones together (they move as one) while all others are freely moving. This is different, so many have 3 to 4 stones locked together in the clasp area. Just something to think about since you're going to the trouble of custom.

Thank you zah_zah and luvdajules!

zah_zah, before you commit you should go to a jewelry store and try on different size bracelets to get a feel for the size that would work best for you.

Thanks for the advice on the safety clasp I hadn't thought of that.
If you could upload a picture of the bracelet that would be great!

I spoke to my jeweller and he said 5 pointers would still look like a sparkly line. I have very thin wrists so I hope that makes the stone look alittle more substantial.

I Wont be able to go to the specific jeweler but will go and try some on at a different jeweler.

Can search on "show me your diamond bracelets" to see other 3 ct tennis bracelets. One I saw on that thread, had a heavy 4 prong setting and so the bracelet had a bigger presence on her wrist. I kinda went the other way, having a smaller 4 prong setting so it faces up mostly diamonds, but on it's side it has height to allow for the heart shaped opening under each stone. Many people recommended the WF tennis bracelets with ACA melee. It may in the same price range as you are considering for custom made. I'm guessing around $5k. I bought mine pre-PS at a local jeweler in Jeweler's row in Chicago. I think I got a good deal for the quality as they were uncerted stones, but they appeared high cut quality, G VS color and 12 pointers each, 52 stones total in 18 kt wg. I paid about the same for mine. It appraised for insurance replacement cost of $12k.

Hope that helps!

That is gorgeous!
The price I have been quoted is pretty much around $5000 although im in the UK.

Your bracelet looks very substantial. I wish I could get 12 pointers.

Note what Catmon said about wishing the diamonds were larger. I advise you to get whatever big size that you can pay now, because you will regret later for not doing so.

WF's 3-prong tennis bracelet is the best. It makes the diamonds appear bigger. The setting is fairly safe and comes with a safety clasp. The bracelet is comfortable. The ACA diamonds are to die for. Get it before the next price increase, which I suspect is coming soon. Call Vera from Whiteflash to get started.

The 3-ctw has 54 sparkling ACA melees (F color, VS clarity) of 5.6-pt (or 0.056ct) each. If you can squeeze your budget a bit, get the next size, 4 ctw with 47, 8.5-pt diamonds. Both 3-ctw and 4-ctw sizes are dainty enough for everyday wear. The price may seem high now, but in a few years you will pat yourself on the back for getting it now. Since I bought mine, the price has gone up quite a bit, and will surely go up again SOON. Whenever I think about the 3-ctw and 4-ctw tennis bracelets, I can't help but regret not having got it back then.

Il get a quote for a 4 ctw and see how much the price increases.
Do you think the difference in 5pointer and say 7-8 pointer would be significant?
How do you know the price is going to increase?

I would agree with getting as much as you can at this time, because I have read here (by trade people) and have been told (from a custom quote in the past two weeks) that melee prices are already rising. I think it won't be long before we see price increases. I would go with the 4 ctw if at all possible. I personally prefer 4 prong settings, and they can get others besides those on the site, as well, if you are interested in WF.

Zhu Zhu - I have several thoughts about your process, especially since I was so recently in your shoes. Since you are in the UK, I imagine having any type of diamond tennis bracelet is quite rare and exceptional, at any size. I too started my process thinking 2-3 cttw. Definitely enough sparkle with the right cut can look larger than lower quality bigger stones, but still very feminine and good for daily wear. So, if that is what you want and have budgeted for, then by all means. However, I do hear some uncertainty that you might yearn for bigger stones really. In that case, consider waiting till you have a bigger budget (but prices increase too) so you have the bracelet you'll be happy with for a long, long time. That's what happened to me. I would have loved a smaller bracelet, as long as it was excellent cut and white. But, I realized, I too would have wanted a larger size so I decided to go for it as my one and only forever tennis.

Perhaps working with a PS vendor for a max budget of $4k so you have enough for shipping, insurance and customs to UK would allow you to get a bigger bracelet. Or go with the WF ACA tennis options cause the quality is so exceptional that they look and have the presence of a much larger carat weight. I saw the 3 cttw was $4.5k. I'm sure it's to die for and drool-worthy. Hope that gives you some help.

The price on the website is still good, but not for long, I heard.
There will be a 26.56% increase in surface area from 5-pt (2.4mm diameter) to 7-pt (2.7mm diameter). The difference should be observable.
I know, because someone :wink2: just bought one.

If you live outside of US, and do not want to risk the hazzle of returns, Whiteflash tennis bracelet is a safe bet, in terms of quality.

The only thing you need to find out is the length for your wrist. The 3-prong bracelet is 7 inches long. Get some metal bracelets of various lengths and try them on to see what you prefer best. I have some stations/diamonds removed (but included in shipment). I like mind hang no less than 1.5 inches from the bottom of my thumb.

Oh no.
Now I feel like I should get a 4 ctw which is out of my budget at the moment but if I wait a couple of months id be paying for the possible price increase. Eeek.

Although I'm very happy with the jeweler here who I work with I'm going to contact white flash and see the quote for 4 ctw and 4 prong.

Thanks for the advice. I don't want regret later on.

Define 'too' dainty.
People's definitions vary.
Some would love a 5-pt tennis bracelet.
Others won't because you can hardly see the diamonds.
They may feel that whole budget spent on one diamond that's much more visible would be more groovy.

Yet another may think 5-point stones too large since you can get many many more 1 pointers in a pave piece.
People just vary.

Just buy what you can afford and like.
What anyone else thinks doesn't matter.
Even if 90% of people said X, you may be in the 10% that say Y.

If you feel a 5-pt TB is too dainty, then don't buy it.

I encourage you to have self confidence in your own opinion.
You are the only expert on what matters.

FancyDiamond, I always look forward to seeing the new additions to your beautiful collection! :wavey:

I just tried a 3ct and a 6ct (for comparison) over the weekend. The 3ct was gorgeous... it packed a punch! A beautiful simple line of diamonds. I wouldn't go smaller than that though , and I think its a lovely size for everyday wear.

I tried on a classic 4 prong style btw.

It's too dainty for me, personally. I'd save up and go larger a little later on (and maybe you can catch a holiday sale at thanksgiving or something! Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales are often good at PS vendors with respect to bracelets. Those are at the end of November FYI).

Thanks for the help everyone.

I'm in two minds now I totally understand what your all saying about get as big as you can now but at the same time I had budgeted for this amount, and don't feel comfortable spending more at the moment.

This is my 4-ct bracelet made with 66 stones of 6.5 pts each.

For what it's worth, I tried on a larger bracelet at the same time and felt like it was too much for daily wear. This was perfect, and I've never regretted selecting the smaller one.

Y'all are making me want another tennis bracelet! I think it really helps to know the size of the stones rather than the ctw. I can see why Alj and catmom like slightly smaller stones for daily wear. I think theirs look great but I wouldn't go smaller.

You mentioned that you have rather small wrists. my wrist is about 5 3/4inches. I wear a 6 1/4 to 6 3/8 inch bracelet, and have two. One with 4.5pt stones and another with 12 to 13 pt stones. The smaller bracelet, on my wrist pretty much looks like aljdewey's with 6.5pt stones. Tiny wrists and fingers really influence perception.

Good luck!

I love your bracelet. Thats the size I want to achieve for daily wear.
I have a five stone ring (1.25tcw) that i wear pretty much everyday so I dont want to be too blingy.

Rocks- Yes I have 5.5 inche wrists and will have my bracelet made at 6 inches.

Hey do you have a picture of your bracelets :)

Yes, but I am technologically challenged. The photos are on my iPad. I will give it a try.....

I look forward to seeing the bracelet rocks! :)

hi zah zah,

Is there a CARAT* store where you are, that you can go and try on different weight bracelets? (not suggesting you to buy simulants :nono:, just to check out the styles and looks). I went and tried on a few today. I find the 5-pt really lovely and blingy, eye catching yet not overly fancy. It is not dainty to me. My husband prefers the 10-pt, which is very substantial and surely beautiful, but I am not sure I feel comfortable wearing 5 ct on my wrist. Having said that, since labour and gold cost is more or less same disregard diamond size, I think you should get quotes for different sizes e.g. 5, 8, 10 just to be sure you considered everything before making the decision.

Hey

Thanks for the advice everyone.
Im just waiting on quotes, for 8 pointers and 10. My jeweler said if i was to go from 5 to 6 or 5 to 7 pointers, there wouldnt be a signifcant size increase and personally he didnt think it would be worth it. He said if I was to go to 8 or 10 I would notice the difference so he would call me back tomorrow to talk over quotes.

Im already at my budget with 5 pointers so I dont really know what im going to do. :errrr:

I'm going to stick with 5 pointers.
