I have both a 3 stone and a 5 stone ring, and I wear the 3 stone one a lot more. My 3 stone is over 4 carats total weight and the 5 stone is 1 carat total weight. Here’s a pic of both rings together even though I never wear them like this. EE00E18B-E5BE-4BCB-B021-A885E44C5A6E.jpeg

Your 3 stone ring is amazing! That center stone is absolutely stunning. sigh.

Could I ask why you wear your 3 stone more over the 5?

Here is mine, just to give you and idea to weed out what you may not be interested in. I love my 5 stone, personally. It has a 1.2 center, next are .5 and down to .3 on the ends.
I will admit, my 1.2 looked a bit larger as a solitaire. I think if the center stone was elevated a bit and the side diamonds lowered some, the center diamond would look a bit larger and less like band. I am thinking of trying that if I ever get tired of this setting.

For a 4.5 ring size, a 5 stone with one carat center is too much, in my opinion. It's a great size for a three stone and would be gorgeous with side sapphires, if that's what you have in mind.

My ring size right now is 4.5, being cooler temps and all. I swell to a 5 when it’s summer but that photo is 4.5, which is why I am wearing my band with it, to hold it in place because the ring is a 4.75.
Maybe it is too much, I really don’t know, but I love it.

The rose gold setting and band are beautiful together! Thank you for sharing this pic.

I am really waffling now because I love sapphires so much and would love to have a ring made with some beautiful blue stones! I just don’t know if 3 stone or 5 stone would be best! Maybe for comfort, the 3 stone would be more functional.

What do you all think the maximum carat size a person could use for a 3 stone ring on a 4.5 size finger? (If all the diamonds are the same size.) I'm asking because this is an option I've been considering.

I want to be able to close my fingers and not have the diamonds rub and hurt the neighboring fingers, but I'd like to maximize carat weight. I'm guessing three 1.5's but I really have no idea.

Thank you for your kind words about my ring. I wear the 3 stone more just because I like bigger bling! The 5 stone is beautiful, but it’s more of an anniversary band, and I’m not into the anniversary band look much lately.

About 20mm, so approx 1.25 each.

I agree. My ring size is 4.5 to 4.75, and my 3 stone is almost 20 mm across, and it covers the top of my finger, but doesn’t go between my other fingers.
