Hi fellow diamond lovers, need help AGAIN.

I have decided to use existing stones to make a 3-stone RHR. Can you please help me out:

1) the sides stones (I'm guessing 0.50 ct each) from a pair of earrings are uncerted and they definitely have larger tables, probably some leakage as compared to the center which is 1.2ct with 55% table. Is a difference in the cut quality going to be a problem?

2) Noticed some would set the center stone a bit higher than the side stones. What are the pros and cons as opposed to having all 3 stones on same level (but curve around the finger)?

3) 5mm 6.9mm 5mms, will this proportion dwarf the center?

4) on a size 6 finger, do you think I need another stone on each side? I actually love the graduated 5 stone that Niel has, but I worry the ring may be too wide with a 1.2F center. But at the same time I worry that 3 stones will not cover the finger

5) I like clean, simple, modern, structured look. And prefer as little metal as possible. What kind of setting would you suggest?

6) Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I prefer the center stone higher to differentiate the individual stones in the row of stones a bit more. It visually highlights the center.
I have an antique plat. fishtail prong setting with OECs of similar size to your stones that provide full finger coverage on my size 6.5 finger. There is more metal in my setting than I think you want, but I still think with approx 16.5mm of stone, you will achieve full finger coverage.
It seems to me with those stone sizes you could not add additional stones comfortably. I may be wrong, but in my mind more stones would get pretty chunky around the sides of your finger.

Incidentally I love my 3 stone ring. It's a classic design!

I am going through a three stone hunt as we speak. This was previously posted on pricescope which may help you see the dimensions together. Best of luck!

I am not able to find 3-stone rings where i am from so i can only imagine how this style may look on me. We are of similar size so your input is very useful reference, thank you. Have you posted any pic of your ring? Would love to see!

Thank you. I have seen this comparison before and find it really helpful.

Was originally worried that the side stones may overwhelm the center. But i have now decided to set the center stone higher so hopefully it will pop.

sorry I don't have any good shots - my i-phone is about the best I can do at my desk - I don't think this setting is what you're after and frankly my mother likened it to a stainless steel tank, but my grandmother put a stone from her original e-ring, and two left in-kind for medical services during the depression. so the whole piece is like a little chunk of family history for me. I won't reset, but I know there are a lot of more elegant settings around.
I think you'll at least get an idea of finger coverage.

I'll let others address the rest of the questions. But this is my favorite three stone setting for rounds: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/open-gallery-accented-18k-white-gold-5448w18

Hi Gypsy, what do you like about this setting may I ask?

Center is set higher which will set it off the most as it is the best cut of the stones you have. The sidestones are not facing up, so since you said they are not as well cut, this will help hide that fact.

Also the setting is very fluid. And I like that it has three prongs on the sidestones and it looks very comfortable.

@Harpertoo, thank you for sharing. i actually love wide shanks - once set this stone in a super wide, must have been at least 5mm shank. i love that structured, sturdy look. The only drawback was the stone seemed small in that setting. Your ring does not have that issue, perhaps because of the full finger coverage? And the fishtails created a squarish look which goes well with the shank. This design also compliment your long straight fingers (which look more like size 5.5 to me =) ).

Gypsy, excellent point about why to set the center higher. I am concerned about the lesser quality of the sidestones and this is a good solution. THANK YOU so much.
