So I had a 3 stone OEC found off eBay that was beautiful (domed with lots of filigree) but too ornate for my lifestyle and I only ended up wearing it for special events. It was too beautiful to scrap but I wanted to repurpose the stones for a more everyday 3 stone that I’d get more use out of. I finally decided to take out the two side stones, replace those with lab sapphires and use the side stones in a new ring with an AVR from Distinctive Gem.
The sides were uncerted but estimated to be K-L in color. There was an O color AVR whose size and price appealed to me but was unsure if the color contrast would be too noticeable. I sent the old ring in to Rhino to get his opinion and he thought it would work. Because those AVRs are so darn beautiful and bright, I think it faces up just fine with the sides. I’m not color sensitive. Some lighting I can see a difference, particularly the side view, but it doesn’t bother me.
I’m very happy with how it came out—I’m very pleased with the claw prongs and although not to most people’s taste, I love 3 stones where the side-stones are sizeable and not of the small accent variety. No snagging on my gloves at work either—I think this will get a lot of wear! My engagement ring was a 3 stone with 0.5ct sides and .93 center and after my divorce I had given him back the sidestones as they were his grandmothers—anyway, I’ve missed having a 3 stone like that over the last few years. Rhino’s mid level bench did the work and, as everyone will attest to, Rhino/Jonathan is amazing to work with.
Proportions:
side-stones approx 1.4 ctw 5.59mm and 5.61mm. estimated K-L
Center stone 1.5 O 7.15-7.22mm
Edited to add: ring size 7

Also including a perspective shot and a before and after of the original ring.
