A local jeweller let me know that this stone is available... but I have some concerns (I haven't seen it in person yet, but will).

3.40ct.
girdle - extra thin to thin
polish - good
depth - 63.3%
culet - slightly large
symmetry - good
table - 52%
measurements 9.37mm – 9.71mm x 6.04mm

My main concerns (sight unseen) are the girdle, and the amout of leakage it seems to be showing. Table is a little big too.

Thoughts on this stone?

Oh and before anyone asks, no Lady J is not being traded in. ;))

I think it looks beautiful. I don't see leakage, but maybe I need to look again. It looks very vanilla for a J, but maybe that's photography, since it's GIA graded. Looking forward to more pics :rodent:

Hi, it's white facing and a nice cut. It was on hold for me but we had a disagreement over price because it came back a "J" and not an "I". Is he quoting you the price listed on the website or more, just curious because I was quoted more.

Here are a few more pictures... and I agree JemFever, it looks more vanilla than I would expect for a J, but I think it's the photography.

LOL I wondered if it was a PS'er in the GTA. The one thing I don't like is that he expects the purchaser to pay for "the cost involved to obtain the certificate , shipping x 2, GIA costs, insurance, home land security investigation charge (approx. $100.00 first time that has been charged to us) etc." IMO he should absorb those costs! I also think his price is too high (currently anyways).

Maybe he just doesn't know how smart and savy PS'ers are! :naughty:

I can give you the goss on what happened. He quoted me $36500 + $700.00 these were the costs of the GIA certificate + shipping both ways to send it to GIA in the USA which is what I requested, so a total of $37200.00. I really thought it was a bit much that I had to fork out for the certificate and the shipping but at an "I" colour which he swore blind it would be, I was happy to pay that. It was on hold for me and I was ready to purchase the stone. Then it came back a "J", I have been trying to negotiate him down a bit on price, even a little but he won't give even a tiny bit.

I guess I am probably delusional here but I just expected that when a stone comes back a different colour to what you are quoting then the assumption would be that you would be slightly willing to negotiate. Anyway its a nice stone, it faces whitish, but I can see obvious tint from the side. I will marvel if you can negotiate with him because he has told me and I think two others before me that is the price and that is it.

Maybe via power of suggestion you could go and see him and go "you will sell me this stone at a lower price, you will sell me this stone at a lower price"..... and you might have more luck than I did!!!!

My interest in this stone is only "mild" at best. To be honest, I want my next stone to be closer to 4ct.

He originally had it listed as a SI1, I colour. So the clarity has gone up, but the colour down.

He actually quoted me $37,500 - so $300 more than you!

Yep he originally had it listed as a high SI1 to a possible VS2 so that was no shock, but swore it was an "I" not a "J" - it was O.K buying at an "I" but I don't think it's any great find at a "J" for that price. OMG I can't believe he quoted you more. I still can't get over the fact it has gone down a whole colour and it's the same if not more expensive instead of less, I am like how does that work exactly....

Vintagelover went to see it toting a 6 month old no less (hi if you are out there). I live in Australia so she was my eyes I guess, she says its white facing and a great cut, but I'd love another opinion, so if you go and see it let me know what you think.

Update, I just got an email from him saying and I quote "You fail to mention that the clarity is now higher VS2 than the original SI1 hence my firm price. A VS2-J is a more valuable stone than a SI1-I."

And then basically he has changed the price on the site accordingly and its now listed at $39900.00 on his website and viewing by appointment only.

I think I need to leave it alone just to avoid the drama of it all!!!!

The stone is GORGEOUS to me. I would snatch it up if it was cheap. The size is just what I want too.

I think I called on that stone a while back too, but he wouldn't budge on price...at that time my budget was a little higher. I think it's the same stone anyway. GORGEOUS!!! But, the guy sounds... :nono: I would pass too...

It's a little out of round judging from the pics and since part of the girdle is very thin, it would have to have some girdle rehab. I am finding a lot of the retail antique stones to be priced so high that it makes me feel a lot better about paying for an AVR!!!

That's the problem... this guys seems to be a bit "off" Inconsistent with his pricing to say the least.

I'm only about an hour away from his shop, so I told him I'd come take a peek once he gets the stone back from GIA.

Interesting, Adam just sent me another e-mail... funny how he "suddenly" knows about this post.

Aside from Vintagelover has anyone else seen this in person?

Well, it is not at all unusual for sellers to follow threads on here. My feeling is that it was a mistake to have ever mentioned PS to him because he now knows a bunch of women are in love with OECs and he can be more firm in his pricing. But the price stlll sounds high to me and I am betting he'd make a nice profit at $36,500.

Well it wasn't me that mentioned it! ;) But the one positive is that Adam hopefully won't recut it!

This is the reply I got from him a few minutes ago...
"I see all the pricescopers are having a lot of fun with this one. Just thought you should know. The diamond is available to you or any other pricescope person for $37200.00. I have changed my website price to $38900.00 to any walk in customer given the new information regarding the upgraded GIA grade of VS2-J vs. my original estimate of SI1-I. A VS2-J is more valuable than a SI1-I. The extra $300.00 I quoted you was to cover a few additional “security” investigation charges by FedEx that I have never been charged before."

Oh, I hope you didn't think I meant you! There may have been several calls from PS members plus VL probably mentioned it!

I am sure one of us would take your 2.5 carat stone off your hands..like me! I call first dibs!

When I started to say that I was losing interest yesterday because he wouldn't budge on price he then contacted other pricescope members, and possibly other contacts he thought would be interested. It appeared on here without me mentioning who he was or where the diamond was (you can read old posts where I do not say where the stone that was on hold for me was) because HE contacted other people he thought might be interested. At the same time he was emailing me behind the scenes as well.

As soon as it was mentioned on here by two little birds (while he was still talking to me might I add) then I did talk about what happened. That is when it turned into a interesting game of being spoken about on here and he raised the price online and via email to me (to others), possibly to make some point to me that I was getting some type of deal at $37200.00 (the original price of the stone + the cost of the certification + it's journey back and forth to him) and because in a subsequent email he now claims the cost of sending it to GIA were even higher than the $700.00. Maybe it is my fault I was obviously meant to suck it up and either just buy the stone despite it coming back a lower colour but a higher clarity (the gist of the dispute is he claims makes it worth more and I think makes it worth less) or I was meant to shut up and get over it.

And for the record it was a combination of him and me that allowed him to know about it being on here, him in that he contacted other pricescope members while he was still talking to me, and me who in one of the many emails that occurred behind the scenes said I see he contacted other members as soon as two little birds put it on here.

I am over the drama of it all, having said that it's a nice stone so don't let that stop anyone else from buying it.

Arkie, I can certainly understand your feelings on the matter. If a seller wants to sell to the highest bidder, I think they need to sell on ebay. The seller should have reached an agreement with you, either to buy or not buy, before contacting others who had inquired.

+1

I know Adam told me that the stone was on hold / pending sale on the GIA evaluation. I guess once you told him you were no longer interested he reached out to everyone else.

arkieb1 - I wouldn't take it too personally. He is running a business and will sell it to the first person that pays up. He has a few beautiful stones but I haven't spoken to him personally. I am cheap these days and won't pay that type of dollar even if I do love the stone.

I think the whole thing was handled in a really unprofessional manner but hey that's life. Vintagelover is the ONLY person I know of that went to see the stone. She really really liked it.... so if you do go and see and and decide not to buy it but think I am nuts for not doing so do let me know.

Charmy; yes, Dreamer thought I was slightly nutty from the outset to be paying that sort of money in the first place and is helping me look for something else so its O.K, if you come across anything good let me know.

Have any of you seen the big OMC on ebay?

I did see the OMC but it wasn't wow.

I think the J is really nice. I am not going to make my way to see it ... too far for me :P

I wish cheap and great cut were more accessible. I certainly would like that, too. But I want about 2.5 cts or less.

Fly by post:

I didn't send Adam a link to this thread-and I wasn't even aware of it until yesterday so he probably is following it on his own. I did link him to the thread I started on the stone though after he had sent me photos of it-and prior to me seeing it in person.

I did go out quite some time ago to view it in person since I've only seen larger OEC's here and on JBEG site and wanted to see what a well cut one looked like in person. It was amazing-he compared it to another larger stone of higher color (can't remember what though) and they faced up the same to me. But take that for what it is-I had a 5 month old in tow and was also picking up cloth diapers for a gf and was just loving seeing it in person. I have own (and have owned) and I and a J (all cushions expect for the H which is a MRB) and it faced up just as white as my MRB. It had a ton of personality and threw off fire works. It was amazing. I'm sorry I didn't take any photos since my son wasn't allowing me to.

As far as him changing the price-he warned me that if the stones was sent off the GIA per the request (and if the buyer decided to buy it she would have the price honored + fee's for GIA) but if the specs came back differently and the interested party choose not to buy it he was going to adjust the price to reflect the grading. It is what it is IMO-Adam is a business man and he took time out of his day (and allowed me to change my son on his desk) when he has a ton of stuff to do-spent about an hour or so with us.

Like Charmy I'd love to buy the stone but there is no way I'd ever pay that kind of money for a diamond. I'd rather wait to find the steal of a deal like she did which makes it that much better for me. It's only a good deal if I pretty much stole it

ETA:
But who ever buys this stone (as long as they are okay with the color-although it faced up white to my eyes) is going to love it. No hunting needed-it comes certified now so you know what your getting and I know for a fact that Adam has over 30k into the stone (exact number I have no idea but he certainly didn't buy it for dirt cheap). I'm not sure what mark up diamonds normally have but I can't image it being any different than that.

vintagelover, how far are you from Adam's shop? Maybe you could tag along with me when I see it... two eyes are better than one! We could take some additional pictures too if Adam lets us. :naughty:

Just let me know, we could have a mini PS GTG.

I'm a little over an hour from Barrie. We are getting another vehicle on May 13th otherwise we'd need to carpool with a car seat 8)

I'm game though either way :) My husband commutes during the week though so until then I won't have a car. Speaking of G2G we're planning one for Vineland estates winery in Aug. that there is going to be a poll for dates-you should go to that one too!

Btw I'm near the newmarket area.

LOL I created the poll for the GTA GTG... so I'm going! ;))

I live in Whitby but work in North York. We can carpool or meet there, it would be fun! Adam is going to contact me when he has the stone back from GIA.

By the way - you can send me a message on eBay, my user ID is two*little*birds there. ;))
