I went ring shopping @ Robbins Bros last weekend. I found a setting from Ritani that I really liked (micro pave band that''s rounded and comfy, round stone and halo, and sits up enough that the wedding band sits flush with it).

While I was trying them on, I thought the size was perfect. I didn''t even know how big the center stone was, but it looked like only slightly smaller than what would be perfect for me. Mind you, I have tiny fingers (size 4), so I don''t need that huge of a ring- but I was HUGELY shocked when the sales lady told me that all of the settings had 1ct CZs in them. I have always dreamt of how sparkly and huge I wanted my ring to be, and my guy and I decided on 2cts before we went shopping. Now I''m thinking twice as big may either look amazing or gaudy.

Can yall show me some pics of 2ct (or in that neighborhood) WITH a halo on a smaller size finger? Like, under size 5.5.

I am having the ring custom built by a jeweler instead of buying the Ritani b/c its the same wait period, and the Ritani can only hold up to a 1ct stone.

a 2 carat round with a halo on a size 4 is going to be quite large. I wear a 3.5-4 too. keep in mind though a 2 carat round doesn''t mean it''s 2x the size of a 1 carat round, you have to go based on the mm. size. nothing wrong with going custom, but I believe Ritani can make the setting for larger stones, this one, for example from pearlmans, says it can be made for stones up to 2 carats:

They don''t have the Ritani ring that I like on the Pearlman site. I attached a photo of the Ritani ring.

I think custom is better all around- that Ritani setting is upwards of $4k for only white gold. My jeweler can make exactly what I want, in platinum, for about half that price.

i think too big is relative. a 2 carat with a halo on your finger is probably going to just about cover it. It really is so personal if the style would be too much for you are not. personally, I probably would not halo a 2 carat round stone on a size 4, but that''s me. I will try to think of some 2 carat halo''s here and post them, I just can''t think of any off the top of my head.

okay, here is iluvcarat's 2.44 carat round in a halo e-ring. and she wears a size 4. I think her ring is fantastic! it's all about comfort level.

It totally depends on your personality/preference. Some people can "rock a big rock" others prefer something more understated. For me, I need something smaller b/c I knock it all the time on things, but if you''re not such a klutz it could look fantastically blingy

Get the original Ritani, thier quality is great.

You should try it on so you know if you like it. Pearlman''s will send samples to you, maybe they ahve a 2ct ritani they can send out?

Too big is a personal preference honestly. And in my eyes it does have more to do with just ring size, but shape of your finger at that size. I have a very narrow finger and only have about 10x12 mm I can actually use. Not only do I have child sized hands, I also am petite (5' tall) so my proportions are more of that of a child than an adult. So when I tried on a 2 carat stone without a halo it looked like I was playing dress up. I didn't like it at all. I have worn a 1.5 carat stone and I didn't like it either. It was right on the verge of too big for me. Someone who may have skinny fingers but much longer ones and proportionally with hands and body size probably wouldn't feel that way at all. Or those who live in areas where 1.5-2 carats is the norm might feel differently too.

So my point is go with what you like and not with what the size it. Small fingers are great in that you can make a "smaller" stone look huge! Right now the ring I wear is about .4-.5 in an older setting that makes it look square. That part makes it look about 5-6mm square and I like the look. For me above 7mm is just too much.

I would double check on the Ritani though. I thought I read they can hold a larger stone. I was considering them at one point and went with vintage instead.

ditto, you might also get pricing from Pearlmans, they are very competitive and offer a discount to Pricescoper''s. so if you are at all interested in the original, definitely worth a phone call or email to them.

It depends on what you're comfortable with and what looks good. I would try on a 2 carat round in a halo before having a ring made. And ditto dreamer about getting the Ritani instead of going custom. Ritani quality is great and a custom copy probably won't look as good.

ETA I have a 1.5 carat radiant in a halo and when I was trying on rings I was surprised when I loved the 1.5 carat in a halo on me. I wanted a 2 carat (and still kind of do) but the 1.5 is a great look on me. I wear a 5.25.

P.S. Are you straight edge by any chance? Your X's made me wonder!

i agree... "too big" is relative... some people might be comfortable wearing bigger rocks, some might not... i would try different sizes if i were you... see which one you like the best... and keep in mind a halo is going to add at least around 2mm to the size of the ring, 1mm on each side... on the other hand, "shrinkage" might set in a couple of months after you get your ring!

Here''s a pic of me trying on Jewels by Erica Grace''s 2.34 antique cushion with halo
The dimensions of a cushion are smaller than a round brilliant of an equivalent carat weight.

Size 3.5-3.75 finger.

Can a ring be too big? Probably. All depends on the wearer and how they present themselves. If you look comfortable, you will get away with big size. If you look uncomfortable, it will look silly. I have seen lots of lovely 2ct+ rings on here with small fingers that look gorgeous.

Resonance- that ring is a SHOWSTOPPER!

I am definitely the type of person that can pull off a big ring, and I really want one. Looking at that picture just made me *SO* sure ;) I have very slender fingers like yours and a larger ring will look pretty similar to that on my hand.

I think it''s personal preference. I have size 5 fingers and I think a 1 1/2- 2 carat without halo would probably be the biggest I could feel comfortable in, but I''m pretty understated in my accessories. Try some on and see how you feel. If it''s comfortable to you and you love it, go for it!

For reference, the size of the cushion in there is 7.88x7.62. Since you want a round, I think typically rounds are 8.0-8.2mm for 2 carats. So the stone will look even bigger as far as a round goes in a halo.

Wow I am so grateful for this thread, because I have identical concerns! My stone is also around two carats and I love love love the look of halos, but I was worried that a 2 ct haloed on my 3.75 size finger would look a little nuts. If I get a halo, it would be quite small and delicate and set very close to the stone and I''d hope it would be fairly unobtrusive. However, I do like big rings - all of my cheapy costume jewelry rings are big and cocktail-ish. I''m waffling between a halo and just a plain pave band, which I also love. I had aaaalmost decided on the pave band, but now this thread is changing my mind! AAHHH!

Resonance, I LOVE that ring. So amazing!

Here''s my 2ct. crisscut cushion halo. My ring size is a 4 1/2. Sorry I know it''s not a round halo, but thought it might give you an idea.

Thank you for posting my ring Mrs. Salvo, and for your compliments

Here is a picture so that you can get an idea of the size on my hand. The ring is 4.5, but I have a big knuckle. The actual size of my finger is a 3.25. They slide all over the place even with sizing balls, and especially now in winter. The diameter of the rb is 8.5. Sometimes I feel it is a little too big, but I am a small girl with small hands. Sometimes I wear just an eternity band instead, but mostly b/c it better suits my lifestyle these days. But when I wear my er I always enjoy it and admire it all day

It is my dream ring. My advice to you is to get EXACTLY what you want if you can afford it. Otherwise you'll just end up changing it later.

For me personally, it would be too big. I wouldn''t halo a round larger than 1.5 carats. But again that''s just my personal preference. You have to decide what kind of look you want.

The halo of this one
Oh wow, that''s absolutely beautiful! Where is that one from?

I think size is all relative. I initially thought mine was big but it just seems normal now and some days even small. It''s a 2.52 ct radiant in a halo on my size 4.5 finger [the ring is 4.75 to get over my huge knuckle].

cmsflyring028.jpg

Size is indeed relative, and for me it''s all about finger coverage. I like when 3/4ths of my finger is covered by stone. I wear a size 6.5, and think a 9-11mm is the perfect size round.

I don''t think haloing a 2 ct stone would make it look too big on your finger. When we first went ring shopping, I never thought that I wanted a stone bigger than a 1.5 ct solitaire on my size 5 finger. Now I have a 2 ct solitaire, but after a couple of years, shrinkage set in. I will be resetting it this year (probably in a 6-prong solitaire - I think it makes the stone look bigger than a 4 prong setting) but I have put serious thought into haloing the stone. The only thing is that I have a very sporty/minimalist look, and I''m afraid that a halo just wouldn''t look right on me. But I think a halo ring like iluvcarat''s ring is just divine, and though it looks huge, it doesn''t look "too big" for my taste - I think it''s perfect.
