I have been looking at mostly 2ct Round Brilliant diamonds online. Saw a couple in person today, they were nice, but looked smallish. A nice sizeable diamond I saw was at 2.52ct, but that is going to mean going down to a J/K and Si2 on my budget. Was looking at 2ct and H/Si1 or so at my budget of $17k. Of course the G/VS2 2.52ct I saw was way out of my price range.

If you have an approximately 2ct Round Brilliant on your finger; are you happy with the size? Or wish you had gone bigger and sacrificed a bit of color and clarity?

I always imagined a 2ct diamond being a pretty substantial size, but it looked not that way at all.

Don't think that would be possible for a well cut GIA/AGS graded stone... :read:

I am happy with the size. 2ct stones look very substantial, in my opinion. They have a very classy presence. Maybe get a halo setting, to really make it pop.

I think a lot has to do with the size of the finger to be honest.. my gf is a Size 4 and she's said to me she'll never wear anything even bigger than a 1.8ct... as it just looks MASSIVE on her finger (so im looking at 1.7ct I/SI1... lucky for me haha) but yeh depends.. also i think after you have a bigger diamond..over time you just get used to it and want bigger and bigger ect!

Good luck!

Were these loose stone that you were just laying on your finger? I think stones look much larger in their mounting.

I have a 2 ctw in a 3-stone. I previously wore it in a solitaire. I think it looks huge. My fingers are 4.25 though

2 carats is a beautiful size. really

I wear a 2.0 ct on 5.75 very long fingers. I find it matches my lifestyle nicely not too big but just big enough...

2 carats is a nice size. Mine is 1.7 and it looked large for like 2 minutes when I got it. I could do 2 carats one day ;)

We're you looking at a well cut diamond? If the diamond is too deep, it might not face up like a 2ct hence the smallish impression.

+1
what is your finger size?
a 2ct round looks different on a person w/ a size 4 finger vs a 6.5

Yes, Diamonds do shrink but not that quick... They usually shrink about .15mm per yr... ;))

You can't go on carat weight, as each stone will face up larger or smaller than another of the same weight. When trying to decide what size looks best for you, always go by diameter. :))

I don't think it has anything to do with finger size... some of the (super lucky) PS ladies rock a 3+ on size 3.5 fingers! There are also ladies who are a size 8 that wouldn't like anything over a 1.5 ct, so it's really about what you're comfortable wearing.

I find it has a lot to do with the setting.
I upgraded from a 2 to a 2.31 and I find that my 2 looked larger than my 2.31 because of the thickness of the engagement ring band.
I am considering resetting my current stone into a thinner setting now because of this very thing.
