Hi all,
Just like most everyone, I have been glued to this site to gather info. I am about to lose it, I am in information OVERLOAD!!!

Our last purchase was 25 yrs ago when we bought our ER. I am looking to purchase a 3 stone ring, basket setting with some hand engraving on the basket and top and sides of the shank.

I have been shopping at some of our local B&M stores. It has been helpful to see these rings in person to determine size and what looks good on my finger. My ring finger is a 7.5.

I found these rings and would like to know if I can do better online.

I do not have ALL of the info on these rings yet, but would like your input as to what the approximate cost is from verified vendors online. What would I expect to pay for the center stone, side stones and setting, plus some hand engraving???

Here is the info that I have---
Ring A
Platinum setting in basket setting
2.53 ct princess approx. 8x8 J color VVS2
.44 ea trapezoids on sides (same grade as above)
3.41 total ct. wt.

Ring B
Platinum setting in basket setting
2.27ct princess approx 8x8 I-J color VS1
1 ct ea princess on sides (same grade as above)
4.27 total ct. wt.

Ring B has a thicker band because of the size of the side stones. How would some hand engraving look on that size band?

Ring C Not a ring, but Something else I would be interested in:
Same setting and engraving as above
2 ct radiant (squarish cut) H- I color VS1
.50 ea trapezoids on sides

From all of what I have read on this site, I know that Depth, Table,Girdle, Crown, Pavillion, etc is important too, but at this point, I would like a ballpark figure to compare to the B&M stores for the information given.
Just by looking at these rings I can tell Ring A is cut deeper than Ring B. Both of the rings have brilliance and fire and are very pleasing to the eye.

I have come to the conclusion that I am not going to buy the top of the line ring, but a ring that is in my price range, looks good with lots of bling with all the specifics following close second.

Thanks for your input

There is not nearly enough information here. We need cut info, you have not given that at all. You can't dismiss the importance of a diamonds cut. Without this info, nobody can give you an accurate estimate. Also, which lab has graded these diamonds? There should not be a color range (e.g. I-J) but a single letter. Respected labs like GIA and AGS will not give a range like that.

You can do a search above under 'pricescope your diamond' to find out what prices are like for online diamonds.

Hello and welcome. It seems you really like square shapes and are looking for a nice piece. As Jazmine mentioned, there isn''t enough information there for us to be able to tell you if you are getting a good deal on any of those. At the very least we''d need to know what labs did the grading, WHEN the grading took place, and all the information off of the certificate that was issued after the diamond was graded.

We love to help people drowning information overload, and are happy to help you sift through it all and help you understand what is important and what isn''t... but we need certain things to make this happen.

: )

We surely can direct you to the best quality diamonds online, but you might want to do some extensive looking at settings before getting to the point of choosing the diamonds. I''d suggest looking at Pearlman''s because they carry a huge number of settings. Maytal Hannah makes very beautiful custom engraved settings and has a wonderful reputation as well. Here are links for you:

You should aim for AGS0 princess cut diamonds for best light performance and cut. Both Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash carry them. Winfield''s also carries fine princess cut stones. Sometimes three stone settings come with the side stones and you only choose the center stone. With custom, you''d obviously choose all three. I also want to mention that there are some alternatives to princess cuts that are absolutely gorgeous called the Jubliee and the Princess of Hearts. I really prefer them both over a princess. See how they perform on this video:

Have you seen this setting? It is my absolute favorite (I can''t even explain how much I love this ring, favorite) setting for a princess:

If you are interested in having different side stones, I would give them a call. Or consider having something custom made.

Jazmine, I agree, not enough info, but I am working on it. The local B&M owner is a graduated GIA gemoligist. I haven''t talked to him personally yet, just a salesman and his limited information. I am gettting a list together of the questions I need answers to.

Gypsy, Hi! and thank you for the welcome. Yes!, I do love the squarish stones. My current ER from 1983 has a pear center stone and 3 tapered bagettes on each side (ring guard type) in YG. I have always been drawn to a square/emerald cut stone.
My birthstone ring has a EC garnet center with trillion and princess sides. These type of stones were either too expensive or not that popular back in 1983 when we bought our ER. I do love my original wedding set and plan to keep it as is.

Diamondseeker, Thanks for the links, I do love a squarish Radiant as well. What should I look for with that stone?

Facet Fire, Wow! I love that setting as well, very close to what I am looking for, not just the "cookie cutter" 3 stone ring, but one with larger stones, and some engraving that has an antique look keeeping it simple, yet unique.

I''ll post more info when I get it.
