Hi all!

Anyone out there can advice me on the 2 toned wedding band as pictured? I'm ordering me a matching pair width 5mm for his and 3mm for hers. The jeweler is telling me it's impossible for the 5mm to have discernable colors like the photos...he said it's clearly photoshopped. And I'm all sorts of confused because I saw 2 rings both at 6mm with clear yellow accent borders. So at 1.5-3-1.5 and 1-3-1, does that 0.5mm make a difference visually???

Thank you.

I'm assuming that's a white gold/yellow gold band?

I wonder if the jeweler meant for upkeep.

My husband's is two-toned but the rhodium plating (which gives it the white gold look) wears off in time so it all looked like yellow after a while. When I took it in to be replated, they had a hard time getting the white part bright enough. The plating wore off faster the second go-round. Who know, maybe it's just my jewler's lack of talent??

He just keeps his band as yellow gold now.

Hi thanks for your input. It's platinum in the middle so I don't think he meant for maintenance. I saw 4mm bands that also have distinct 2 metal color. I'm not sure why he's saying that. I'd love to have second opinions from you all. Thank you!

He just sounds uninformed and kind of silly. Of course you can see the difference. It would make more sense if he said the smaller band would be hard to see, but even then, it's on YOUR hand, and if you have you hand at normal viewing distance/angle, of course you will notice the yellow gold on the side.

I have a two-tone ring (shank is yellow gold, heads are platinum) and while most people can't see the shank (because it's between my fingers--diamonds on the top), I can see it and know it's there, and I love it. I'll attach a photo that proves how silly this so-called jeweler sounds. For reference, my ring is very narrow, only about 2.3mm at the widest, with maybe .5m of yellow gold below the heads of the diamonds. But I can definitely see it. If your skin tone is darker than mine, it will likely be even more visible, since I am very pale.

Don't listen to this jeweler.

Thank you that was really helpful. So yea I'll just go with another jeweler then because I want peace of mind. Thank you guys!

I would definitely advise finding someone else!! I'm by no means an expert, but when DH and I were shopping for wedding bands he really, REALLY loved the Tiffany 6mm two toned milgrain wedding band BUT he preferred the gold in the middle and the platinum on the outside. Plus he wanted 7mm instead of 6mm....So we had it custom made! And it came out beautifully! Picture below (DH on the left next to the Tiffany band on the right)!

They should make the platinum/yg proportional to the mm width of the ring so you will always see the contrast. We also had matching two-toned milgrain travel bands made (one was 3mm the other 5mm) with another jeweler and there was no problem at all.

That's exactly the style I'm looking for! Sheesh I'm thinking he doesn't want my business or something. I went with someone else that's a bit more pricey. Thank you all for these helpful tips!
