I guess there's not a way we can do the math on what a stone with those dimensions should weigh without more info? Last night I was searching around looking for stones that were similar in dimensions and they were all 2.4ct+. Something just doesn't seem right about the price, dimensions or one of the bits of information that have been provided.

Seeing as you were personally referred to this diamond "wholesaler" it should be easy enough for them to provide some personal attention and photograph the stone and send you pictures of it.

All of the other places who sell diamonds will do this for free often times or for a small fee if you end up not purchasing the stone. I don't see why this place would have to charge however, seeing as they already have the stone in their possession.

Remember also that you'll have to pay sales tax on that $9500 purchase which is 8.25% in LA (last I checked).

I will try to get the rest of the info, but it''s a little hard when my boyfriend doesn''t want me to contact them since he wants to suprise me with the stone (even though I''ve already seen it). I''ll tell him that the sale should be contigent on an independent appraisal.

As far as my "friend", that she is, I''ve known her since I was 3 years old and it''s her dad who has bought from them for over 20 years, and I trust them both.

I will continue to look around online and see if anything else is out there that is better. The links everyone has provided has been very helpful!

I''d be concerned that the cushion is too shallow. There have been shallower cushions on PS that seem nice, but I do remember one that had a LOT of leakage.

But I do agree with the others...if you LOVE it, go for it.

If everyone would really read the dimensions, you would quickly see that this stone is exactly what I predicted. It's quite skinny. Example: 2.40 cts., 8.64 x 7.35 x 4.95 Whiteflash for $10,761. Contrast those dimensions with 2.01 cts., 8.60 x 7.08 x 4.29. OP's stone "looks" like the 2.40 because the eye sees the length, more than the width. My 12.12 is constantly mistaken for a much larger stone than 2.06.

OP's stone is a long narrow cushion, that's all. If it's pleasing to OP, that's really all that matters.

I know this response is late in coming, however.....I think it is fine to advise someone to let their eyes be the final way of choosing a diamond, but not all eyes are equal in this regard. If you have "diamond fever," the biggest rock on the block may seem like the best and cause a strictly emotional choice. I think we also need to take a step back and use our logic. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is. Thank the heavens that we have independent appraisers to help us deal with reality

With a 15 day viewing period, there is plenty of time to have the diamond in question put through its paces. That being said, I am one of those "mind clean" people and need to know everything from the inside out

She started a new thread about the issues she was having with the jeweler. They weren't wanting to stand behind the verbal agreement of the 15 day return etc. Seems it was too good to be true afterall, as the OP felt they were being untruthful with her. In the end it did sound like they were giving her a bit of the run around. Good news though, they were able to get it resolved at least.

I'm not sure, but I think she's back in the market looking.
