Hiya Milly

My ears are pierced but they''re very senstive. i can''t wear earrings for too long without my lobes turning red and puffy.

The layered pendant look, DBTY, and right hand ring are all options right now. Just don''t know which to go with :)

Hate to have that little guy sitting there for too long without a home

Wow... not bad decisions to make... all would be great!

Your new stone looks beautiful. I''m not typically a solitaire kinda gal but I can sure appreciate a beautiful solitaire! Especially with a large diamond like yours, I would most likely get a nice subtly blingy Leon solitaire. Like was mentioned (especially if you aren''t sure what to do), you can get it set as a solitaire and then later on reset to a 3-stone.

With the .50 stone you have some great options... sapphire with diamond sidestone RHR, pendant, DBTY... or even a Leon ring with just the .50 and a sapphire halo (one of my fave looks).

Have you tried different metals for earrings? Maybe you have an allergy.

Hi Sera,
I do have an allergy to white gold, a terrible one at that. But I''m still a little scared to get a second stone, set them in platinum and find out I still can''t wear them.
(my husband would also kill me if that happened) hehe. Also, my hair is rather long, can''t see the earrings unless i''m wearing a ponytail. I think I want the earrings just to have them not because I''d really wear them. So might as well put the stone to a different use.

I was originally thinking the Sholdt semi-bezel solitare. Heyeliza posted it and it''s amazing. Leon is another option and since i''m in nyc, would be easy to work with.
Problem is my wedding band. It''s rather thick, the girth on that thing is 2.8mm due to the pave on one side. From what i''ve seen, leon''s rings are set low and very delicate. Not sure how it would work with my band.

Regarding the sapphire halo, I haven''t seen it on his site, do you happen to have a link?
Thanks.

Still looking for the sapphire- it was different than this one (can't remember it exactly... maybe it was more of a cluster ring?) but I really LOVE this one and think it would be amazing in sapphire:

LM_emerald.halo.jpg

ETA: here's a repro on this page. I can't find a sapphire halo- maybe I was remembering incorrectly. I know there was a sapphire with a diamond cluster almost like flower petals... maybe there weren't any sapphire petals or halos.

oooh, very pretty. all that did was give me another option and i''m terrible at making up my mind

Ooh looks pretty.

If you don''t really need the .5 stone, I''d just trade it in toward this new 2.5 ct. stone. But I really think you could probably wear platinum earrings. I think it is the wg that is causing you the problems.

I vote for solitaire for the new stone!

DS great idea!
Another vote for solitaire most def. for the new rock

I''m leaning towards a solitare too and maybe i''ll chance the earrings. Platinum doesn''t seem to give me any problems so it could be just paranoia for the most part.
but I can''t send the stone back, it''s not in my diamond genes!!!

arjunajane-
Solitare seems to be the fave here and i''m starting to agree!!!

Lol! I guess you can''t have too many!!! But I hope you are able to wear diamond studs because they are so beautiful!

You know when you are re-decorating, and you find a table, vase or clock and you really want to use it in the room you are decorating but while it looks great on it''s own it seems to throw off the room and not quite fit. Sometimes as much as you would like to use something, it dosent work.

Perhaps the .50 is a bit like that for you...you love it....but it dosen''t quite fit for anything you really want in your jewellery collection.

I would return it, but clearly you would prefer not to.

So, I would buy plat earrings and pop them in your ear - sans diamonds and see how you go. Wear them around the house and if you are not allergic wham bam you should go find another little .50 to companion your existing .50. They can be firm firends for life.

As an aside, I am not convinced by your concern for how much you will really notice earrings with your longer hair. I have .33''s and long hair (past bra strap) and those little soldiers shine all day long!

Good luck!

PS. I forgot to add, that honker of 2.5cts is AMAZING!

gemgirl- thanks for the links.
that 3 stone with the 4+carat is gorgeous. wow, just wow. I also appreciate the link to the 3 stones, they're all beauties. have decided to stick with a solitare though and it's most likely going to be the sholdt. I've been in love with that setting for years and it was my original choice. Think i'm done with second guessing myself (finally)

Steel- very good point. That's pretty much exactly what's happening right now. Love it, but hard as i try, there's just no use for it.
the plain platinum earrings are a great idea. going to do that this week and see how it goes. if they work out, gonna get a second stone, if not.. oh well, i'm sure i'll eventually find a use for that little beauty.

Is it just me, or does that 4+ look smaller with the sidestones? I honestly think if it was by itself, it would look bigger...Maybe it's just me.

And elle, if the Plat doesn't work for studs, what about something totally different. I was thinking about your lone stone last night (that probably should go in the, you know you are a PS'r when, lol), and I came up with a couple other ides. What about making it the center of a "flowery" pendant or incorporate it in a brooch you design? or a cool stick pin? or those things, not sure what you call them, but they slide down over the top button on a high collar shirt, to hide the button?

Just some things I thought I'd throw out, it was fun thinking about it.

oh my god.. lol the "you know you're a PS'r when" just killed me. I was thinking about rings posted in the SMTR last night when i went to bed and this morning woke up remembering where I saw them.. too funny and too true.

The stick pin is a great idea and so is that slide thing. I know what you mean but don't know what they're called. Can use the pin on pretty much any top and it would be very cool for my wacky style just to add a little something. (I'm the girl who wears converse with diamonds).

I did just check Bluenile for cheap platinum earrings too. i found these http://www.bluenile.com/product_details.asp?oid=1059&catid=123&filter_id=0&nav1=earring_channel.asp&page=1&col=1&row=1&pos=1&set_shape=

I just wish they didn't have the latch backing. Trying to close them is going to be a pain and bound to irritate me. gonna get them anyway since i think the price is great for platinum and for a trial run they should do.
If they don't work out, the stick pin idea is my next choice.

Those hoops are a good price for a trial run. If you could sleep in them (some people it doesn''t bother), that would cut out some of the taking on and off/messing with the latch. And you''d get a picture faster. Just a thought.

I really love the stick pin idea, I''d love to have one!

if this posts twice, i apologise, i''m having problemos today.

why don''t you go for a solitaire, then have a wrap made, like woobugs ring. you''ll have so many options to choose from, solitaire and 5-stone, 3-stone with 5-stone etc etc.

Hi Po10472

Thank you for the link. Woobugs ring and wrap are stunners!!
Don''t think it would work with the setting i''m probably going to get as it''s a semi-bezel.

Hoping the earrings work. If not, Ellen''s stick pin idea was ingenious and thinking it would totally work for me.

I love this ring. It has such clean sleek lines, and I imagine really shows off your stone. And that is quite a gorgeous looking diamond btw! I was also thinking about the particular sholdt design ring as an option..But I also love pave'' too, and from what I''ve seen Leon''s work is amazing.

Good luck with your decision!

Hiya,
Have you seen HeyEliza''s ring? She has the semi-bezel. Do a search for Sholdt if you haven''t. It''s stunning!! Leon''s work is gorgeous too. His plain solitare, the one Harriet has was something else i was considering but it sits too low for me.
Hell, I''d do a tension setting if i could get away with wearing it on the same finger as my wedding band!! (hehe, i love modern straight designs).

The Sholdt semi-bezel and Leon''s pave are very different looks. Opposite ends of the spectrum :) Take your lifestyle into consideration when deciding and let us know!!! Do you have the stone yet?

I have a girlfriend with a 1.5ct sholdt semibezel- She gets compliments on it everytime we go out- I want one too!

I''m bumping this so everyone can give elle more setting/mounting ideas. That stone is tooooo beautiful to leave unset!

Oh my word your new rock is AMAZING!

Solitaire vs. 3 stone is a really tough decision.....I don''t know which to say!
40.gif
You can''t go wrong, that''s for sure!

I have a 2.52 E vs2, so they are close to twins

. I love it as a solitare -- 3 stone rings don''t look right on my finger, IMO, and I don''t love how they sit with a wedding ring. One of these days I might have Mark Morrell make me a spectacularly simple and smooth setting for it. For now, it''s in a platinum semi cathedral setting that is nice, but not as nice as an MM would be.

enjoy!

Oh -- DH also made sure I knew that this was my ultimate and final stone. I could have anything I wanted, but this was it... hmmmmm.....
