I am getting an engagment ring made for my gf. I am hopefully buy the diamond next week i just wanted peoples opinon on its value as ive only liased with jewelers and dealers.

Its oval just under 1.1crt, color D, ex cut, ex polish, ex symm, Flawless clarity , non floro, ratio 1.45. No visible bowtie.

I was on the understanding that these cost around 20k?

Thanks.

You can check by running a search here:

Does it have a GIA or AGSL cert?

I would, however, add that that is extremely expensive to my untrained mind.

Go IF if you must, FL is silly ... it wears into IF reliably.

Of course, if you do not tell what it is, nobody will see more than E/VS. I am not quite so private.

Thank you. I found the same diamond a few k cheaper! And came up as a fair price. Unfortunately it was aquired by a uk jeweller and is being sold at a higher price.

Nope.

$20k in us dollars? For just the diamond? Seriously? No. That is NOT a fair price.

Just two examples tha are larger and still blazing white and VVS is gorgeous clarity.

I want one which is 1-1.1 ct top spec.

How easy is it wear-in a FL diamond? Is having a repolish an option?

Thanks, I assume whatever clarity you get the result of years of use is the same. An ever damaged stone. Its dependent on you wanting to pay an extra 30% for FL.

Is it that you want FL for your presentation to your beloved? If so, I can understand that, but you will pay a few grand premium for that experience.

I am willing to pay a bit extra yes. But i will try and save money by researching pricing.

Repolish is recut ... There is weight loss etc.

There is some wear always, for sure; however, it has the greatest effect on the top grades - by much, methinks.

I understand the attraction of an unsurpassable object ... & would choose to count attributes that do not decay.

I would do what others recommend, drop down in clarity because even the slight wear, with change the FL to a lower clarity grading. Spend the difference on a platinum setting instead of 14K gold.

I'd like FL if possible. Was just wondering if the price seemed about right.
I shall be getting a stone set in 18k rose gold.

I still say the price is too high. There are two 1.1 carat Flawless D stones in the PS database. They are $15,735 and $16,654.

If I change the question to what could you buy that is, FL, GIAXXX and under $20,000 -- I found 34 diamonds between 1.1 and 1.38 with the majority around 1.24ish.

But, this is from the position of buying from the US in USD. If you are not in the US or not buying in USD, the conversation costs and various taxed may change the equation for you.

Thank you for your help. Thats a good help. I was assuming that a diamond like this was around 20k usd.
The one i mentioned was 14.25k. I might be able to get it down to 12.6k

Great! Glad to be helpful. Hopefully the sale goes well.

Just a note that the difference between FL and IF is simply the polish on the facets. If you get a IF with Excellent polish, you are fundamentally getting the same diamond -- often for less. FL and IF are less than a hair's width apart on the grading scale.

Well I went to buy that 1.08ct diamond and unfortunately was beaten to it, shame as a lot of research went into that!
On the plus with more knowledge I've purchased a different one.
1.3ct ex cut, polish &sym. D color and still an FL clarity.
I've however compromised on the fact it's medium fluorescent. Saving 6-8k

I think that's a more sensible bet too. More bang for your buck.
