Last night I watched it again and caught several details I missed before.

The director, David Mamet, has his actors deliver their lines in a distinctive way,
Plenty of repetition, unusual pauses, and an almost music-like rhythm and cadence.
It's almost a quirky elocution of poetry.
But it, and the music, contribute to that strange but compelling atmosphere of his films.
