Hi Greg,
we went to see the stone together, I actually took her to see the modified cushion cut first and then took her to EDR and GOG. She fell in love with the stones at GOG and didn't mind the M or O color. EDR also had very nice A Cut Beyond cushion but didn't have anything lower than a J which limit us to a 1.5-1.7 carat size. Do you or fellow PS know of a custom made solitaire rose gold setting that will complement this stone?

Hi, can't resist chiming in.....
GOG did a custom Vatche setting for my AVC is RG!
I love it...it's a P, by the way. I would check with them on settings. Here's a quick i-phone shot of mine. (I think the warmer AVCs look wonderful in RG, but it's personal preference. )

Beautiful setting and stone Harpertoo! Thank you for sharing the photo. I will definitely keep that setting in mine. What were other settings you were considering before pulling the trigger on that one

Thank you Serifblack,
I knew I wanted the cut displayed, so I did not consider a halo.
I saw some beautiful settings by Ritani, and really was inspired by Ksmom's beautiful ring. I think claw prongs are a nod to the vintage style cut...but simple and delicate is what I was going for. If you browse the forum, I'm sure you'll see lots of wonderful examples.
I did consider Plat, since my other rings are Plat, but I think the RG is better with my stone's tint.
Good luck with the project! I look forward to seeing pics!

Niel just showed me a beautiful solitaire from Ritani. Was your cushion also from GOG? I'd love to hear your story

My ultimate goal is to work on a custom setting like Haven's , rose gold shank with white gold or platinum basket. But I think that would be too expensive for now.

Your budget for the setting was 2k right? I'm sure you could get a similar solitaire for that. I don't know if you'd want to though, sense you may or may not me upgrading to a halo in a few years.

The setting Niel showed you is lovely.
My stone is a 2.25 AVC P from GOG. (I had a very good experience working with GOG on both the stone and setting.) i did everything through email. I believe I was told GOG is no longer working with Ritani, so I showed them some photos I collected of the elements I wanted and they put together a custom setting using Vatche. my ring is not truly an engagement ring, so my criteria/expectations may have been different in terms of color and style. It was a project I selected while I recovered from foot surgery and was stuck on the couch this winter. I considered flying to NY to see family & select the stone in person, but I felt like I was seeing what I needed to w/o the trip.
If you search the forum, I have more pics posted. I'm really pleased with the ring. My husband wanted me to get a saphire or ruby since I have family diamonds, but I think these warm AVCs are unique by general diamond ring standards.

Or this setting from JBEG :

This is one of my favorite setting so far  , very tempted to make a trip down to LA to talk to Grace

Here is a new video shot for the two stone under spot light conditions:
The O (2.11 carat) performs return better light than the M ( 1.91)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peu5VsezMW8&feature=youtu.be

This is why I'm tempted to move for the 2.11. I don't think my gf will object for a bigger stone.

I vote for the M as well.

I like the O. Looks like a larger surface area as well!

The O doesn't perform better than the M. They are both great. At this point, I think the setting matters a lot as to which stone you go with. The O will look better in that JBEG setting, as I would not like an elongated stone in that setting. I think since she liked the shape of the M, your best bet is to put the extra money saved toward a halo setting which I think looks best with lower color stones and it will increase the overall size appearance, too.

But if you go with the JBEG setting, you don't need to go see them. Everybody does these settings by phone and email.

Hi Serifblack. I know I'm a little late joining this discussion. However, I vote for the M for a number of reasons....
1. Like your GF, I prefer the look of the more elongated cushion (M) than that of the square cushion (O).
2. In the videos, the open cutlet adds to the stone's personality.
3. The M appears whiter face-up IMO.
4. And probably most importantly, your GF preferred the more elongated shape. Being the wonderful BF that you seem to be, you're trying to get her a larger diamond (carat weight). I get it! That's wonderful!! Heavens, what woman wouldn't love that???!!?!? However, the thing to remember is that the your GF liked the M. The M spoke to her, and it had nothing to do with the #'s on the reports/scales. I'm sure she'd appreciate you even more for actually LISTENING to HER desires. (Ya' know, I've heard that once men get this down pat, it's smooth sailing thereafter.....kidding, kidding )

Serifblack,

I guess i am adding no more than what has been discussed already.

She has seen both in real life and likes both the elongated and squarer shape AVC. However, in an earlier post you stated that she prefers the elongated shape.

As mentioned before, and others have as well, your GF is the one that is going to be wearing it. So, getting her final opinion on this is important. If she said either would be fine, then you have free reign on the stone. if still undecided- ask her, "just based on the stones that you have seen ( $ aside) which is the stone that YOU LOVE?".

Depending on your final budget after the stone is purchased, a simple solitaire for now is a great idea; at a later anniversary add a halo.

It is an exciting time-enjoy the ride, don't get too bogged down on what it is that you want to get her. It is ultimately HER ring. I am sure that she will love whatever you choose as well.

As for the setting, i think you have been given great advice by several posters. I am biased towards a solitaire in RG or YG, with the stone of choice.

Folks,
Thank you for putting up with my indecisiveness ( it's my first time buying a diamond after all :) ). I made the purchase on the M and surprisingly somebody just reserved ...wait for it the O (2.11) today . I think it worked out perfectly, the setting that I chose was this

I will have the rose gold shank but still not sure if I should have the white gold basket or rose gold basket. For the rose gold, is 14k better than 18k for this stone color?

Scorpiolove,
You must be a psychologist or a mind reader ! Thanks a very convincing input, I bought the M as you could imagine :).

:appl:
Good choice !
That M is beautiful.
Can't wait to see it set in the rose gold.
Those warm colors look beautiful in rose gold. I would go for 18kt it's just richer from what I notice on yellow gold. But on rose gold I am not sure. I think at SingleStone they use 18kt rose gold and it is beautiful- but Ari says they blend their own rose gold that is just very special. My yellow gold is 18kt italian gold- not sure it makes a difference but my jeweler says it does- and it looks very rich with depth, but not too yellow. Anyone with 18kt rose gold? Also, I believe there are varying rose gold colors but don't know. I am sure someone can respond to that and I have seen some people talk of this in threads if you do a search.

Glad you decided on the M! It is such a beautiful stone!!! I personally like 18k rose gold better, but if you are considering this a temporary setting, then I probably wouldn't spend the extra money. I would probably do the head in platinum if it is a long term setting but 14k white gold if it is temporary.

I much prefer 18k for rose gold. But unlike yellow gold, I think its easier to get away with 14k rose gold. Yellow gold 14 vs 18k is really just a matter of richness, 18k looking deeper, 14k looking a little tinnier. But with rose gold I think its more of a color preference thing. 14k is pinker, 18k is more coppery. I do think 18k has a more antique look to it, though.

18k rose hold has a slightly more golden tone that I prefer with a yellow tint stone like most diamonds. 14k rose gold can be vey very pink and its not my personal preference.

Could someone post a picture of the setting? I am having trouble pulling it up. :?

Fabulous choice! I'm sure your GF will be elated! ;)

I remember at one point you were thinking of doing a halo setting. So, will the solitaire setting that you've selected be a temp setting or perm setting?

here is the ring design.

Decided to go with the 14k rose gold . After seeing the pictures on PS, the 14k color will most likely speak to my gf's heart. I also went with a white gold basket as this is only a temporary settings, at least till our next anniversary :). Thanks again for chiming in to this thread and let me hear your thoughts, this is quite a journey for me and it would have been impossible without all the help
