To each his own. I asked owner to send to a lab, he will refuse and life goes on.

Personally I dont think it is that bad. Maybe its the 10k I lack to buy the equivalent non-dog diamond. Easy to be picky when you can afford it. I have seen wide differences in color due to camera on various forums. Though I agree, from the pictures I am not driving to orlando to consider this.

Enjoy your 1100$ drunk. Clubbing are we?
I'm sensing that price is your main hot button here, but have you thought of dropping size (by a lot) to get something that will actually sparkle? I hate to make you feel like people are ganging up on you, but there's just no life in that "diamond" at all, and while your intentions are great, polishing a proverbial turd isn't going to make it smell any better.

There are some women out there who prefer size over all else, but I think most women would prefer a diamond that performs well, and may be small to something larger that could easily be mistaken for quartz.

Could you maybe find a .40 - .50 ct. diamond and set it in a less expensive setting by lord_of_gem_rings or any of the other inexpensive sellers on ebay? That should put you right around $1,100.

I haven''t read the rest of the posts to know if this stone is considered a good one. But I like the color of this diamond. Then again, I prefer warmer colors. Nice color but have a matty feel which I don''t favor. Just my 2cents.

I like warmer colors too (I''ve bought an M) but this thing looks opaque. Don''t think you''ll get much sparkle out it. I think there is an extra zero on the price. You could get a sparkly real diamond, one that has been already certified by GIA or AGS, in a classic setting for $1K.

You are asking for opinions, right?

That doesn''t look like a diamond to me....

Ditto. Even a piece of frozen spit diamond has the "diamond look", so to speak. This one looks like quartz or something similar.

I have a j/k stone from JA in that size and it is nice(color doesnt bother me or GF, nice sparkle). I have been looking for a bit of an upgrade on the used markets, I plan to have the current JA stone set in something else after using JA's upgrade policy as well.

I totally agree with you. Just waiting and watching for a nice used stone. Owner is not being helpful with a questionable stone, not worth my time.

I''m glad you''ve decided not to go for this stone because the seller wasn''t being helpful. I also think that the seller was not exactly being truthful when saying that the stone was an old one (hence the cut). I don''t believe that''s the case but that''s my gut instinct. Couple this with his definite embellishment of the colour grade and not wanting to send it to a lab etc., I''d be highly suspicious.

I''m of a slightly different opinion in that I do believe this is a diamond but it''s not a good one and therefore the price is waaaay too high. A polish wouldn''t sort out the performance (even to get it to a bad emerald cut standard) so in effect you''d be throwing good money after bad - and I suspect you''d never be able to contact the seller again if you had this appraised and it wasn''t a diamond so I''m very much relieved you''re not going ahead.

Are you in a hurry to find something? If not, I would say to take your time. Perhaps tell us the sort of thing you''re looking for and we could help? Bargains for genuinely lovely diamonds do come along but you sometimes have to wait awhile.

I will be waiting and watching, ebay and craigslist. I just want something that is a nice upgrade to what she has now(.6 SI1 j or K, not sure, princess). I have seen plenty of nice stones but just doesnt seem worthwhile to get something that will be barely visibly larger/better. Princess, radiant and emerald are what I am most interested in, and other similar cuts.

No rush, I have always enjoyed ebay/craigslist and the dynamics of the internet and such. I wish there was more info here on this.

I thought you were looking for a stone for a pendant? Somewhere along the line I think I got confused. Anyway, I''ll keep my eye out for you.

Do you mind if I make a suggestion? Go into a few jewellers and have a look at their J or K colour grade diamonds. The reason I''m saying that is J or K is white with a hint of yellow (but really only a hint). It''s far removed from the colour of the diamond that you''ve posted above. If you''re after something like the colour in the diamond above then in all honesty you''d be better looking at a brown diamond - commonly known as champagne, chocolate, cognac etc etc. They are relatively inexpensive and a lovely brown diamond will sparkle and have wonderful fire also. If you go down that route, I''m willing to bet that you''ll be able to pick up something much larger than her current .6ct

Yup, looking for a pendant.

And not specifically looking for brown/champagne but I am open to them and will look into them more. Probably be busy with being home for the holidays now though.
