Hi all,

I''m preparing to propose to my better half and have been looking for that perfect engagement ring. I''ve been lurking in Pricescope for a while, and have found it to be a wonderful resource for information. This is my first post, as I''d like your views on a particular diamond which I am thinking of purchasing.

I had engaged a local vendor to source for a square H&A that was within my specifications. He had in fact located one such diamond and we had agreed on a price. However, it came about that his supplier had misquoted him and he informed me that the diamond was much more expensive than what was originally quoted. I''d like your views as to whether the new price being quoted to be is exhorbitant as it''s much higher than the price originally provided to me.

The specifications of the diamond are as follows:
GIA Grading Report dated March 23, 2007
Measurements: 5.78 x 5.73 x 4.19 mm
Carat Weight: 1.08ct
Colour Grade: E
Clarity Grade: VVS2
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Florescence: None

Unfortunately, I have not yet been provided with any pictures of images despite having requested for the same. The present price quoted to me is in the region of USD13,000+.

Do let me have your views of whether the price is reasonable. I had my heart set on this particular diamond as it seemed to be perfect for my better half, but the price increase placed it beyond my budget. I''m not ruling out the possibility of getting it, but I''d like to know that I''m not being taken for a ride.

Thank you in advance,
Ming

Apologies, realised I didn''t list out the following specs of the diamond:

Table: 56%
Depth 73.1%
Cutlet: none
Girdle: thin - extremely thick (faceted)

I am quite new at this. If there''s any necessary information I might have missed out, or any advice that you have, please let me know. Hope to hear your views soon.

Ming

Price looks on par for a B&M H&A stone of that stats. Especially after factoring in the fact that it is a specialty cut.

Thanks for the confirmation, Stone. I just wanted to get some re-assurance.

Sigh... and I thought I''d scored a real bargain with the initial quotation...
