Hi Nikky and welcome!

Is this intended as an engagement ring where you mention you found a ring above?

We need a bit more info please, is this diamond GIA graded? If you could link to the GIA report if applicable or post all the information from the report here, that would be very helpful. At first glance at the above numbers, it appears to be a shallow 'spready' stone but the crown and pavilion angles particularly are needed in order to get a better idea of how this diamond will perform, for example, will it be bright and sparkly or lacklustre and dull. The angles will give us a better idea but my impressions from even the basic info are that you can probably find a better cut diamond if the stone is intended for an engagement ring.

Price, is the ring preset and for sale online or from a brick and mortar store please?

thanks alot for your answer

Hi Nikky,

Thank you for supplying the additional info! A few things to consider...This isn't a badly cut stone by any stretch, it's probably going to show a greater proportion of brilliance due to the proportion configuration and look a little larger for the weight, some buyers really like this look. This diamond might show reduced fire or coloured light because of it's proportions but it's a trade off. One important consideration is the price as it's a ring for sale on the secondary market, I think the price is quite high personally especially when comparing the price of similar diamonds for sale online, what type of setting does the ring have? Does it contain diamonds? Are you buying this ring through in a private one to one deal or is the ring for sale on consignment through a third party? I would make absolutely sure before you buy it that this ring is genuine.

its through a third party site so im not worried about it being a fake.
the ring is very simple its a Tiffany style.
so you think its over priced? i thought 4500 is very good but i may be wrong.im mostly worried about the price.

Is the setting platinum or gold? That could also make a difference on price. If you do a search above for similar diamonds, I found these to show you as an example. The diamond I listed I am not suggesting you buy, I am just listing it for comparison purposes, plus it's a D colour and VS2 clarity and slightly smaller.

Diamond - http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.85-carat-d-color-vs2-clarity-very-good-cut-sku-195565

Setting in platinum - http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/platinum-2mm-knife-edge-solitaire-engagement-ring-item-7028

Total, $5850.00 for brand new ring plus vendor benefits. It depends on budget of course and your preference but if you are satisfied that the ring is being sold through a reputable site and you have guarantees in place, I would try to negotiate on price personally.

its platinum
thanks a lot for your suggestions.
the ring im thinking about has never been used and the gia is from a few months ago.
my budget is 4500. i cant really go higher because i need a wedding band too :)
maybe i can get it down a few hundred.

H Nikky,

That helps knowing the setting is platinum and gives a better idea on price. I would throw a low ball offer and see what happens if you think this is the best way to proceed, or alternatively, we might be able to offer some suggestions that might suit you if you decide against this ring. That the report is a few months old is fine, if you have every confidence that the third party site is reputable and can verify the ring is as advertised, then try an offer and see what happens.

thanks for your fast replies
the funny thing is he was asking for 6000 i lowered it to 4500
i like the look and its cut and polish and symmetry in excellent. the colors also e, that's good and its new
i was concerned about the price, but the site is very well known and they appraise the ring.

Hi Nikky, you are most welcome!

I understand, I think that the seller was asking 6k was definitely too high estimating what they paid for the ring, but I can't blame them for trying, they certainly want to try to get back as much money as possible! It is usual to only expect to recoup around 30 - 50% of what was originally paid for a diamond/ring sadly. I did a little research and was able to find the report for the diamond in question, it's a couple of years old which isn't a problem, I haven't dealt with this site personally but I understand it is reputable from what I hear, see if the seller is open to offers if you still prefer to purchase this way.

thanks :)
i talked to the seller and ill buy it. ive added it to my cart :)
thanks for your help
