Women in Jewelry: Sheryl Jones

This March we’re celebrating women from around the globe and what better way to honor women than to commemorate women in jewelry. Over the next two weeks of March, we’ll be sharing some of the most world-renowned and inspiring female jewelry designers who have made history. Today, we’re going to take a closer look at Sheryl Jones, and how she has made history in the industry.

ABOUT SHERYL JONES

Sheryl Jones, is an African-American jewelry designer, and GIA alumni. She is one of the first few women of color to own and operate a jewelry store in New York City’s famous Diamond District. She began her career in entertainment and music as MTV’s Vice President of Communications, a position that later influenced her jewelry designs.

Sheryl Jones started her career in fine jewelry in 1999, following a decade as a film and television publicist in the entertainment industry.

Sheryl Jones said, “I have always been passionate about fine gemstones’ transformative power and beauty,” she explains, “and dreamed of one day bringing music’s similar vitality to a fine jewelry collection of my own.”

Sheryl Jones used to contribute a monthly gemstone column to Rapaport Magazine, the industry’s leading trade publication. She was recently featured on Centric TV’s The Round, an inspirational, TED talk-style series featuring African-American female trailblazers sharing life lessons and keys to their success.

I have always been passionate about fine gemstones’ transformative power and beauty, and dreamed of one day bringing music’s similar vitality to a fine jewelry collection of my own. – Sheryl Jones Jewelry, owner and designer.

Sheryl Jones has inspired us to follow our dreams irrespective of our age (age ain’t nothing but a number). Furthermore, Sheryl Jones has proven that women can make it in a male-dominated industry. Most of all, she has shown women of color that anything is possible.
