I think the moi et toi will be a great idea.

But to your point about a three stone overwhelming the center. This ring is the same stone size.

A little "too much", I think. The halo really helps the center diamond stand out though, so good point.

david klass made that, and could also make it as jsut bezels without a halo, hes done it before, and its a very reasonable price. something to consider, it would look very engagement ring like, which is an argument could be made that a moi et toi doesnt

That's alright. I think I am fully settled on the setting. I've driven myself half crazy looking at all the ones I have (including something like this). I did request for a thinning as you proposed. I used that photo you linked; I hope you don't mind.

That second ring you posted also has a much larger center stone. I like the idea of an equivalent gem (in size) in the toi et moi setting. Plus it's teeming with symbolism.

I do not mind in the slightest and I like that you're confident on the design. I also think it's a lovely design so I hope it doesn't sound like I dislike it. Show us the next round of cads, it's nice to have a lot of eyes on something to make sure. I'd send him one of the pics above though and tell him you want the bezels that thin. He made both those rings so he can do it, but you need to set the expectation you want them looking like that

also have you thought about metal color?
all one color?
All one color but the diamond bezel is white and the orange bezel is gold?
one side of the ring is white the other side is gold?

just curious

I was going to get it in all white. Still undecided on 14k white gold or palladium.

Definitely white gold.
You don't even want the orange stone in a gold bezel

The ring will look quite close to a cherished family piece [ex-Vienna, five generations back] - 'guess I am biased that way ... Would agree that such intensely colored stones would not need yellow-gold backup - using it would add detail & no more.

I might have looked around for a stone right on target [with unintended consequences - Dyer], but there are never random listings of such things. Your calling in stones as you are doing, ought to work best !

Hello everyone. I'm here with the finished product. I know I was originally just going for an orange stone, but I ended up buying this orange diamond from eBay for $200 (3-day shipping included). There appears to be a chip in it by the outer edge, but it was not noticeable when I received it.

I went to David Klass for the setting after recommendation from other forum members. After much discussion and deliberation, I decided on a toi et moi ring. The final design is of palladium, with bezel mountings and milgrain. The white diamond is an old European cut stone, approximately 4.29mm in diameter, a family heirloom. The following photos are those sent to me by David Klass.

What a fabulous outcome! Your ring is stunning. The stones as well as the ring design are so beautiful. It's great that you have incorporated a heirloom stone.

She is going to be OVER THE MOON in love with this ring. Great job! I love the design and the love you put into the process. How long until you propose?!
