You're going to want one.

It look like it will be a little difficult to resize

I have an all jade ring, but it looks almost exactly like a ring my daughter has (plastic)

That ring box is divine...wow
The solid diamond ring...hmm, I imagine knocking it on something by accident and shattering it :knockout:

$70 million. Geez Louise. No princess and the pea types for that ring, though I imagine some folks would put up with a little discomfort to wear a solid 150 carat chunk of diamond.

1) Regarding the sizing issue, do you think they'll wait to make the final cuts until they have a potential buyer?

2) What happens to the huge chunk they take out of the middle!? :)

I'd guess they designed something like the "hollow" drill bits used to cut holes in doors for doorknobs so they could save the removed material - or maybe they used a laser.
No way would they grind away and convert all that material into diamond dust.

If it's 150 ct now the removed material must have been enormous, like 100ct.

Imagine if this 250 ct rough exploded while being cut.

I'd be too nervous to wear it. One good whack and the back of it can shatter, chip, etc.

As a museum piece, cool. An actual to-be-worn piece, I'll pass.

Where was this ring when Kobe Bryant needed it? I am a believer in the laws of diminishing returns...I think the idea is impressive on paper, but I don't see this really shaking things up in the industry. For one thing, it's kinda ugly, for what it is, and it looks like a ring pop. Then there's the price. I am sure if you told someone you just spent 70 mil on a ring, they would look at you sideways.

I'd be nervous too! Can't imagine what that would cost!

WHOA NELLY! I'm with you guys - I'll just take the chunk from the middle. :D

Nope. I like metal work. I think it's well... ugly.

No, I'm not.

It's ghastly. And what a waste of a perfectly good chunk of rough!

That jewellery box, though -

I was actually wondering if they haven't cut it yet. On the website, it looks like it's just a CAD. I was wondering if they haven't made it into a ring yet until they had a buyer for whom they could size it properly. It says it's coming in 12.12.12 - a while from now.

I just keep thinking - how badly included IS that diamond from which they are cutting this ring?

Anyway, when they're all done they need to send it off to EGL.

70million is crazy. I'd rather buy up 2012's and some of 2013's Argyle tender for that money.

Oh and thanks for the link Kenny. I loved some of their other work - especially the flower/mushrooms. How interesting!
