Hi everyone! Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. I am 22 years old and I am happily choosing between 2 engagement rings. This is such a happy, exciting, and fun experience! :) I am happy to be sharing it with all of you and I am interested in getting your opinions please.
One is a 2mm white gold solitaire band with a round diamond definitely at .75 ct, or maybe even slightly higher! I don''t know the specs but they would be great and certified. It is classic and simply gorgeoussss! :) (I don''t have this one in person yet! It''s just the idea of it. But the other ring below I do have in person).
The other is a very wide band, completely made up of all diamonds with a princess-cut center diamond. But the entire band, even the center diamond, is all an "invisible-setting". The total carat weight for this ring is very close to 3 carats. I don''t know the exact specs of it but it looks of excellent and perfect clarity, color, and quality, which is usually very difficuly to find on invisible settings and it sparkles like mad!!!! Sooo white! Perfectly eye-clean. Insanely beautiful, different, and sooo unique. Very very breathtaking! The pictures below of this ring don''t do it any justice! It is so beautiful in person! (If it looks a little big on me, that''s because it still needs to be sized on me. It''s currently a size 7 and I need it in a size 4. The salesperson said that the jeweler said it would be no problem and not affect the ring or diamonds.)
Both rings, in my eyes, are EQUALLY beautiful. I don''t like one more than the other. I *love* them both but I can''t choose! LoL I''d be happy with either. But they''re not even similar you know? They are 2 completely different extremes which is why it is so hard for me to choose. I know I will choose sooner or later and will be ecstatic with either :)
I would just like to see what all of you think, get your opinions, and see which you like better and why? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much and I look forward to all of your wonderfully helpful responses! I will keep you posted! :)
*P.S. I am going to be attaching pictures of both rings below. *BUT* the pictures of the solitaire is not my actual ring. It''s just an *IDEA* similar to what I would like. But the pictures that I post of the 3 carat invisible set is actually MY ring on MY fingers :) Just wanted to let you know! LoL! Ok, thanks again!!*

Hi, Asscher102! Welcome! I don''t think anyone can tell you which to get, it''s simply a matter of personal opinion. We can just tell you our personal preference. For me, it would be option #1, the solitaire.

I''m a bit biased, I have the same thing!

The other set is certainly blingy, but not as timeless and I personally am just not a big fan of the invisible set look, but it''s just a personal preference. I do find it shocking that they say they can size a size 7 of that style down to a size 4 without compromising anything.....

But that is just my very uneducated opinion. Good luck, looking forward to seeing what you pick!

by invisible do you mean like a cluster center??? its not one diamond, but many that make up the center?? That is what it kinda looks like to me, and if it is, Id definitely choose the solitaire.... If it is, I dont think you will be happy with it in the future, and would have the possibility of losing some of those diamonds, and honestly you can really tell if they are clusters or not... thats just my opinion, but I say one more vote for the solitaire!! :-)

I personally vote for the solitaire, especially if you can get one of those blingy bands to go with it!

I would definitely go with the first option. The invisible setting... it''s just iffy in general. Think of what may happen when one stone falls out- it''s held together by all of the stones being in contact. I also wonder about resizing from a 7 to a 4 when the setting relies on tight placement of stones. For me, I just plain out prefer the look of the solitaire. if you like them equally, I would go with the solitaire for peace of mind.

Wow, those are VERY different rings!! Especially because they're so different, it's practically impossible to compare the two--it's not like we can say one looks to be higher quality, better design, etc...

It really has to be your call, dear! If you want pros and cons of each, we can give them to you... but it really has to be about what you love and want the most.

I will say, though, that for what it's worth--invisible settings are (1)infamous for losing stones/being fragile in general, and (2)generally considered to be a "dated" look. The second issue is meaningless if you TRULY love it, but the first issue is certainly something to consider.

For those reasons (and perhaps others that I'm not thinking of), it's very unlikely you'll get many (if any) votes for ring #2.

Number One! Classic!

I just looked through your other threads... you''ve gone through a lot of different "dream rings," huh?

I would definitely go with the solitaire. It is a beauty and I don''t think you will get bored with it. It also may also retain it''s value more than ring number 2 in the event you ever want to upgrade to a larger stone. Enjoy! Chelsea

Definitely #1!!!

And this is coming from a girl who adores princess cuts and chose one for the e-ring. But a solitaire is so much more classic and timeless, and I would never go for a cluster/invisible set center stone! There''s just too much at stake to risk all the little stones falling out; plus, I''d rather have a single larger stone than a cluster any day, no matter what the total carat weight difference.

I believe if you do a search, you will find a # of threads talking about invisible settings being somewhat precarious, and I believe I saw one or 2 that indicated resizing is not recommended. It changes the curvature of the ring and the stones no longer maintain the tension between themselves.

Although #2 is "blingtastic", it could be something that one grows tired of......usually the ''classics'' outlast the changing fashions.

So I''d absolutely vote for #1.

i love the solitaire set, but i might feel differently if there were better pictures of the second set. i can''t really make it out from the pictures, maybe it''s the invisible setting? i don''t know what that is, but i think the first one is probably more timeless!!

#1. It''s so classy it can look gorgeous while wearing a pair of sweats or a beautiful dress! Congrats BTW!!!

I love the first one. I am not a fan of invisible set because I have heard of people having problems with stones falling out and it being difficult to repair. I also prefer one large stone instead of sveral smaller ones.

Ditto. I vote for the solitaire! I would definitely not get an invisible setting with the center stone being a bunch of small stones instead of one large one.

P.S. If you like the princess shape, why not go for a princess solitaire?

Asscher-I like the solitaire much better. I''ve seen the invisible set center clusters, and while they are big and "blingy" I can''t help but think that they look a little tacky too. They also get dirty quite easily and as other posters mention loosing a stone can be a b-word. A solitaire is classic, timeless look.

I did want to mention though, that it is not US wearing the ring. Go with what your heart is set on and what makes you and your fiance happiest. After all, you will be the one who will be looking at the ring everyday!

LOL Musey, that was certainly a fun read..!

count my vote for #1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I also prefer the solitaire.

However, from your post, you seem a lot more excited by the invisible set ring. Is there a reason why you think you "shouldn''t" get?

For me and my tastes, number 1 for sure!

#1!!!!!!!

Round solitaire hands down!!!! (JMO of course) The other one, while very sparkly, may look dated in a few years. The solitaire and eternity look is timeless!

Number 1 has been a favorite style of mine for ages! You can''t go wrong with a solitaire and a lovely well-cut round eternity band. That will be a very sparkly set!

Thank you all so much for your fantastic responses! I have officially decided to go with the solitaire and I am very excited. I felt in deep inside that even though the bigger one is fun and beautiful, the solitaire in my eyes and in my heart, will always remain the one I want most. It's classy, always in style, and simply gorgeous. I agree with all of you so thank you for helping me realize that! :) Again, thank you all so much!

Also, I just put up 2 more threads if you want to check them out :) Thanks again!
