Experts,

I am about to pull the trigger on this stone--any opinions would be appreciated!

Report: AGS
Shape: Round Ideal Cut
Carat: 1.660
Color: H
Clarity: VS1
Depth: 60.6
Table: 56
Crown Angle: 34.8
Crown %: 15.3
Pavilion Angle: 40.9
Pavilion %: 43.1
Girdle: 0.9%-1.7% Faceted
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Culet: Very Small
Fluorescence: Negligible
Measurements: 7.70-7.74X4.67

The one thing is, this stone is a little yellower than I had initially set out to buy. I always hear stories of girlfriends (female friends) comparing rings. I'm curious, how exactly do girls compare rings (if there is a typical way)? If, for the sake of argument, my girlfriend's friends all had E's and F's, would they notice hers is an H?

As long as I have your attention, do you think 1.65 is a good size for a 29 year old grad student in NYC with a size 7 finger? I wanted to get her something on the bigger side (relatively speaking), but I don't want her to feel uncomfortable wearing it.

Gracias!

Edited with minor wording changes to clarify question.

Do they go so far as to hold them up next to each other against a white background to see which one is yellower? The #'s look great (HCA score of 1.6) and the stone should face up very white. In fact, I would guess that one would have a hard time being able to pick out even a hint of yellow - especially with the amazing light return from the very nice proportions. As for the size of the stone, I would say that getting a stone close the size of her friend's e-ring would be "par for the course." (especially if she's going to be doing a lot of comparisons with her friends)

Well, is she going for her MBA, or is she getting a PhD in Marxist Studies? If the former, prepare to upgrade. If the latter, you might want to skip the engagement ring altogether, or she'll be considered too bourgeois to get tenure.

Seriously, though, that looks like a gorgeous stone.

It does look like a great stone.

Color is a matter of personal preference. I think H is a great compromise -- some people are more sensitive to color than others, but we're not talking about a J or K diamond here. While the color might be discernible if you were placing it on a white business card face down next to a D colored stone, on her hand, probably all people will notice is the sparkliness of the cut.

However, you might consider decreasing clarity and increasing color if you think it will bother you.

Other than that, it seems like a great stone!

Thank you all for your wonderful and thoughful advice--I'll definitely think about the stone recommended by phoenix, but I'm also definitely not as worried about the H color. (Glitter, she's going for a phd in a social science -- I don't want to say more, tho, in case she reads this board!) This is the sarin report, by the way. I have no idea how to read one of these, but I know the "0" is good. I will post pics, etc. once everything is done. Thanks again!
