Hi Everyone,

I'm looking to buy a simple platinum solitaire for my wife's birthday in September and our 8th anniversary. I didn't get her an engagement ring. We opted for a house instead. Now after many years I feel like I should get her one. I've been searching online the past week and after hours of research I narrowed down to these 3. Hope I can get some of your expertise opinion.

My main concern is the CVD brown hue and the strain/stria. Not easy to tell from the low resolution video. Any opinion on them is welcome. Thank you!

Found 2 more options.
Would any of these be a better pick?

Looks like the vendor don't actually have them in-stock so I don't have additional images.

I like 4 because of the HCA score. Number 1 would be my second choice.

As far as stria and color go you might want to look at https://www.distinctivegem.com/collections/the-private-reserve. Jonathan has screened the stones to make sure those factors do not impact the diamonds. There is a video he made in this forum where he talks about these issues. If I have time later I’ll try to add a link.

Happy anniversary! The lighting and turntable speed look different on 4 and 5 so it’s hard to compare with the first 3. I like #1. Do all of them have a decent return period?

hello, thank you for the input.
they have 30 days free return.

I'm having a hard time picking between 1, 2 and 4. I afraid 1 is too shallow. 2 and 4 might be closer to the ideal cut.

it's very hard to tell from only these low resolution videos.

Are they all from the same vendor? Perhaps they can give you a comparison video of those 3. A side by side profile pic against a white background will help you compare color.
I’d also want to see the inclusion plots. Looks like 2 has something under the table and I can’t tell anything from 4 cause the video is so fast.

yes they are from the same online vendor. these are actually from Yadav. I think they don't physically have them. I'm new to this. would I be able to have them acquire all 3 for me to pick one?

I’m not familiar with Yadav. My guess is that they don’t physically have them because of the video differences. Maybe ask for a video in a ring holder in natural light and a side profile shot and see what they say. Do the diamond reports have the inclusion plots? Are they all from the same lab?

Interesting that they are all VS1. Did the rep say why they recommend #1? You did a good job narrowing them down and the HCA score says they are all worth considering so if your gut says #4 I’d order that (pay by CC) and if you (and/or your wife if this isn’t going to be a surprise) don’t love it return it and try #1.

Thank you.

She thinks the better spread makes the diamond looks bigger for its weight and she prefers it but she thinks that I can't go wrong with either #1 and #4. I actually settled with #1 and hope it turns out to be the one.

My reason being unless we are comparing them side by side. With our untrained eyes we probably could settle with either one. I went #1 for the less visible inclusions.

Shopping online for diamonds is not easy with so little photos and videos provided especially for the MMD. But I think I prefer blind shopping like this than driving around. I chose Yadav because I could save the sales tax with them too.

Haha quick update. The more I read here the more my gut goes toward #4. I asked the vendor to go with #4 instead... I hope I made the right decision.

I hope you love it! Come back and let us know.

ethical question. would you order 2 rings and return the one you like less?

Yes. It’s a big purchase and you want to get it right. No shame in that.

So I got my rings finally. I took some photos and ASET images hope you folks can help me pick one. Personally I'm leaning toward the 1.53ct because they offer lab diamond upgrade. Even though it's a G it looks whiter than the 1.63ct F to my eyes. I also like the setting design a little better and a couple hundred cheaper.

I think I like the one closer to your finger nail better, but it’s splitting hairs!
Did you end up ordering for Yadav or somewhere else? If it’s Yadav, I believe their website says the upgrade policy excludes lab diamonds, but if something else was communicated to you by a rep, let me know!

Hi the one closer to my nail is the 1.63ct from Yadav. They both look virtually the same to me in real life but I like the 1.53ct setting better (matches better the with Cartier Love wedding band).

Then go with the 1.53!!! It’s truly splitting hairs. They’re both very beautiful diamonds

thank you. it looks like I made up my mind already just looking for validation.

They're both beautiful. I agree on the settings though, I don't like the side profile shot of the 1.63 as much as the 1.53.

I also like the 1.53 setting better. The curve on the prongs look softer and more refined. Congrats!

Hi - Where did you end up purchasing the 1.53 ct ring + setting from? It is beautiful!

I got that from dimend scaasi. They offer lab diamond upgrade policy but I didn't find out exactly how they work.

Thank you so much for your quick response!!! I was looking into Yadav from RareCarat but will definitely check out DimendScaasi. Hope your wife loves the ring :)

Hi again :)

Did you purchase an ASET scope for those ASET pictures? Thank you so much!

Yes I got it from eBay like $30 shipped. Taking photos of a diamond is harder than I expected.
