What do people think of a Vatche X-Prong, White Gold, with a .70 asscher I VS?

The setting is lovely, the Asscher fans here would be far more concerned with the cut quality of the Asscher itself. Do you have any pictures of the diamond to post or any other info? Is this a diamond you are thinking of buying or have already bought?

I don''t have pictures of it yet, but was just wondering if you thought that would be a good size for the X-Prong. The .5 seem too small to me and the 1.0s I can''t afford. Originally I was interested n the Princess cut but it seems the Asscher might look a bit nicer in a smaller size than the Princess.

I know Asschers do face up a little smaller for their weight, but as you thought the .5 looked a bit small, the .70 might be a nice middle ground. In my opinion, there is no contest if I had the fortunate opportunity to choose between an Asscher or a Princess - the Asscher would win every time! I am sure Storm and co will chime in to help you more!

so you think I shouldn''t concern myself with going up a bit in color?

It depends on how colour sensitive you are....Did you see Tierhog's Asscher? It is a 2 carat RA which is a J colour and it is stunning! But only your eyes can tell you if it is too warm for you. Step cuts such as Emeralds and Asschers can show more colour than a round, some will make their cut off for these a G or H for example. An I is where the industry thinks the consumer can begin to see a touch of warmth in a round, but in the steps it is hard to say. I am sure Storm will be able to guide you here, if this diamond has everything else you want it might be worth taking a chance and seeing what you think. A picture from the vendor won't depict colour accurately, but they might be able to advise you as to if it is a high or low I for example. Also the grading lab - if it is GIA for example you know the colour grade will be accurate. This is one of those things where you have to weigh up the other attributes of the diamond and decide if the colour is likely to be a problem for you.

Each diamond, particularly in these shapes need to be taken on a case by case basis, however here is Tierhog's thread so you can see the King J!

so what other info specifically should i find out about the rock?

You should find out the class/proportion of cut and quality of polish. A poorly polished stone with a less than optimal cut will have a greater impact on beauty and light return than color. Most people can''t visually pick up color in a mounted stone above a J so an I would be fine. I wouldn''t go below I however if it were me making the purchase.

I think the x-prong would look nice with a .70 asscher.

The look...sleek and stunning...if you''ve got a good asscher.

It would be nice with an asscher as long as it didn''t overhelm it. The sleek lines of the vatche would be lovely with the asscher. I might personally consider having a satin finish to the vatche to make the asscher pop.

My only concern is ... have you seen asschers and princesses side by side at around that carat weight? In real life... not blown up on a computer screen? The way asschers reflect light and the patterns... at .7 carats personally, of the two, I think I''d prefer a princess... or a square cushion to an asscher. But it''s a very personal thing. You''ve got good taste... the vatche settings are very graceful.

do u have pics of satin finish vs. regular finish?

Look at Tacori E-ring''s emerald cut as a nice example of an I diamond. I have seen it in person and it is beautiful. So I think you''d be okay with an I color. I sort of feel that an asscher is a more classic look and may not be as subject to going in and out of style as a princess, so I personally would choose asscher. Find out how many mm wide the x-prong is. It might be a little wide for a .70 square cut stone.

i suppose if i wanted satin i could get that done after the fact. so it''s more of a mutual choice and not mine because i dont really know anyways.
