I am a new poster and am looking for a diamond for my e-ring (the Tiffany 6-prong replica at Superbcert). Specifically, I would like the following:

Carat: 2.0 +/-
Color: G or better
Clarity: VS1
Cut: Ideal/H&A in a RB

(1) Would a 2.0 ct. be overwhelming on a size 4 finger?
(2) Any recommendation as to an independent appraiser in NYC?
(3) I am evaluating the following diamonds and would love to get this group''s opinion as to the quality vs. price:

Thank you in advance!

(1) Not at all...

(3) All look good; the WF idealscope image is niiiiice...

, but its also the most expensive. I''d avoid the JA unless you get the cert and confirm that the angles fall within the ideal range, although the idealscope image looks ok on that one too (but not as good as the WF). Unfortunately, the JA is also the best deal at 2.14 carats for $30k versus the blue nile 2.0 carats for $28k and the WF 2.0 for $31k (I''m rounding). Might indicate some type of problem, though, I dunno...

You could save yourself some money - or get a slightly bigger stone - by dropping down to VS2 or SI1 without a noticeable difference (so long as an SI1 is eye-clean).

I agree that 2 carat isn''t too big for a size 4, it will look big though, in a good way

. With your budget, i''d probably just go for the WF H&A stone. It''s going to be gorgeous, the others are great too but you get the added bonus of the WF upgrade policy if you every want to use it.

I agree with MrsSalvo, but if you don''t want to pay the price premium for A Cut Above, then I''d go for this one:

http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-70075.htm# (just over $27,000 with the discounts)

The trade-in policy at WF is a strong reason to buy from them over the other two.

So, for yet another opinion, I agree too!

If you are worried about the diamond standing out too much, get a setting that is low to your finger.

The upgrade thing may or may not be important to you at this time, but it could become important in the future.

You have to request the cert from JA to really understand its cut. The other three scored: 0.9, 1.0, and 0.8 on the HCA. WOW!

If you go to "Resources" in the main toolbar menu and click on "Appraisers", you can search for reputable folks in your area.

By the way, welcome to Pricescope!

Claire, I have a 2ct on a size 4.25 finger in a Superbcert Tiffany replica, and I think the size is just perfect! It'll feel a little big initially but big enough to keep shrinkage of kicking in too fast=)

If you are willing to go slightly under 2ct, maybe 1.9, you should give tiffany a call. The tiffany 1.9s G VS1-2s are priced similiar to online 2.0s. Of course a Tiffany 2.0 will have an extremely high price hike. Visually they will look the same size. Online vendors very rarely carry 1.9s. But Tiffany has a large enough inventory that you might be lucky.
