You were right - I need a new WB for my new Halo

I finally picked up my remounted 1.5 RB.... went from cathedral solitaire to a halo. I think I love it (still getting used to it) but I am really thinking I''d love it a lot more if it weren''t next to my three-row channel set WB. I''ve tried turning the WB around so that only the plain gold back is showing on top and I think I like that a lot better..... here''s pix of both ways.

And now with the WB turned around so the diamonds are under my finger. I''m looking for your expert feedback and suggestions but I think I like my new halo a lot more with less "bling" in the WB. Biggest hurdle is we need to stay with yellow gold AND my husband is very sentimental about my original wedding band. Think I can have my jeweler cut my wedding band down to just ONE row of channel set? Would that look better?
Let the ideas and opinions pour in, please.

OK, this is what I would do. Have the original wb resized if necessary and wear it on your right hand. Then get a thin band that matches the new e-ring. This way the sentiment of the wb is kept intact, rather than cutting it down which will change it!

If your hubby is against this then I suppose you can cut the ring down to one band. But I would prefer to keep the ring in its original condition and wear it on another hand rather than cut it down and perhaps not like the result.

And your new halo looks great!
 
Thanks for the compliment -- the ring really is a show-stopper. I find I am almost embarrassed to wear it in public - it looks SO BIG. I''m sure, however, that soon the shrinking diamond syndrome will kick in and I''ll be very comfortable.

The problem with wearing the WB on my right hand is that I already have a three stone on my right hand that I LOVE. And the quality of the diamonds in the original WB aren''t great so only keeping the center row and having them remove and two outer rows would make the ring look a lot nicer. Besides, I could still say that it''s my original wedding band, the one he placed on my finger when we took our vows, just "trimmed down" to help do the new E-ring justice.

And when it comes down to it, you KNOW we do what we want, regardless of hubby''s input. LOL So do you think I should consider a simple band of gold or should I have a thin channel set? I better go look at some more photos - I''m afraid putting any stones next to the E-ring will detract from it.

So I guess the consensus is that I should get a wedding band (either new or modified old one) as thin as possible so it doesn''t distract from the halo?

Lord knows that''s the complete opposite of the wedding band as it is now! It worked great when I had the high-set solitaire but now it just isn''t cutting it.

Yes. But my opinion still stands that you should not alter your current WB. There will be many days when you will want to wear a simpler band without pave and having your original wb would be nice for that. I also think that even if you cut it down you will still probably not like how it looks with your new e-ring.
 
I like it best with a plain gold wedding band.
 
I am such a fan of original wedding bands that I wouldn''t change it - keep it for those times when you want only a band and you can wear it solo. I wouldn''t cut it.... you can ALWAYS cut it down the road, but you can''t UNcut it. If you buy another band and keep this one whole in a few years you can still trim it down if you never wear it as is and you miss wearing it in some form. But be *certain* before you act, it''s irreversible.
 
Very good points, Ladies....thank you for expressing your opinions. I now agree that I should leave my wedding band in tact, both for emotional reasons and so that I can wear it alone when I don''t wear the halo. I''ll just go to my jeweler and see what he''s got or can get me that is super thin that will look nice with the halo.

And I can always wear the WB on my right hand - I''ll just alternate it with my other RHR. Good idea, and a good excuse to get yet another piece of jewelry. :)

For those of you who expressed your opinion that a thin, plain gold band would look best with my new halo - thank you. I absolutely LOVE the look, and the story behind it is even better than the look. My husband has been out of town since last Thursday (hasn''t even seen the new ER setting yet) so I''ve been waiting for his return (tomorrow) before I start warming him up to the idea of me getting a different WB. The next step was going to be to drag him to see my jeweler this weekend so I could have someone else help me convince him how much better the ER looks without my overpowering WB but I knew I was going to have a hard sell. (He''s such a sentimental, romantic oaf :).

Well, thanks to some Higher Powers, I was digging through a drawer today that I hardly ever go into and found my mom and dad''s wedding bands (they both recently died: one about a year ago and the other 11 months before that) and guess what - my mom''s PLAIN GOLD THIN wedding band fits me PERFECTLY. Not only do I now have the bonus of having a ring that looks great, I get to keep a part of my parents with me at all times, AND I doubt my husband will have any negative feelings about me replacing his ring with my Mom''s.

Angels were guiding me today when I stumbled across those rings. :)

Yes, yellow gold -- how perfect is that? Actually did they even make rings out of white gold back then? This ring is over 60 years old.

Next question is: do I take it to my jeweler and have him buff it and shine it or leave it the way it is? It''s actually in very good shape considering how much it''s been through but it could be shinier. Then again, buffing it might remove its character and nostalgia.

wow, that couldn''t be more perfect!! You might even like your wedding band with the gold band... :) classic bands are just so versatile!
