Hooray! At last my beautiful natural blue topaz from Doug at Bespoke Gems has a lovely new home courtesy of Daniel M.

I cannot thank them both enough, particularly Daniel & Caren for putting up with my million pestering emails and questions! This was my first custom project so I was nervous about the results but now I couldn't be happier.

Every detail is exactly how I envisioned (Leon Mege was my inspiration) and I now have to put on my "patience hat" whilst it is posted back to me.

(I now only hope I got my finger measurements correct! :errrr: )

EDIT: Sorry about the huge pics!

Very pretty!

Very classic, elegant setting, and it looks lovely on your finger.

Oh my gosh, it's beautiful   I was just wondering the other day when this ring would pop up-- I remember you posting pics of the stone (gorgeous, BTW). I'm really impressed with Daniel M!

Very much looking forward to pics of it on your hand :appl:

What a beautiful, beautiful stone! And a gorgeous ring! It is HUGE! Congratulations!

Oh WOW, I wondered who that lovely stone belonged to!
I LOVE Daniel M !!!
The ring is likely to look MUCH BETTER in person
than their photos could ever show!
Gorgeous Topaz!

Love those prongs!

I like the simple elegance of the setting.

Gorgeousness!

Just so elegant. A lovely lovely color and cut. Congrats and Enjoy!

Who is "Daniel M," I would like to see more of his work, the setting is lovely and truly features the stone.

I love their work, and you are right, they excel in creating
simple settings that
allow the stones to be the star of the show!

I am really pleased with the things I have ordered from them,
plus their customer service can't be beat!

It's beautiful!

Oh WOW!!! It looks like a swimming pool on your hand, and that setting it gorgeous!

I used to be wary of Etsy, but this site has really changed my mind.

Here's his shop on etsy. Most of his best work is custom, though. I think many of us have jewelry from him.

Enjoy your lovely new ring. It does remind me of a Leon when I first opened this thread, and then I read that he was your inspiration.

Oh I love this setting. So classic and elegant. What a beautiful ring!

WOW Hotpozzum it looks INCREDIBLE! That colour is to die for, and the setting looks amazing! Aren't Dan and Caren the best?! Great job!! :appl: :appl:

Lovely ring!

Really pretty and Leon-esque! Love the cut and color. Congrats it is a thing of beauty.

HP, that is lovely!!! The colour and cutting are fab, and the setting is perfect!

Daniel M needs to get that setting on his site immediately! It's gorgeous!

Daniel and Caren do it again!!! AWESOME!!!

Very beautiful ring!

Thank you all for your kind comments. The ring has arrived and fits perfectly.

My only disappointment is the facets are scratched where the prongs meet the stone on 3 of the 4 corners. To me it's quite noticeable even from a distance and I'm a bit upset about it. I know Topaz isn't the hardest of stones so this could easily happen but disappointing nonetheless. I let Caren & Dan know about it but i don't think it's worth making a fuss or getting it repolished.

I'm sure I'll soon forget about it and just enjoy my beautiful ring! Pictures coming soon.

My heart sank when I read about the scratches - so sorry that happened! You're right that topaz isn't the highest on the mohs scale, but I think they've worked with enough stones to know what they're dealing with. Besides, one scratch might be understandable, but three??!! I would definitely give them a heads-up. The cut of the topaz is so lovely - do you know the name of it?

Yes I let Dan & Caren know about it. They said they didn't see the scratches at all but did believe me and have very generously offered me a discount on my next project with them. The damage is minor - I suppose most people wouldn't notice but I am super-fussy due to my PS exposure! I am slightly disappointed BUT it hasn't changed how I feel about Daniel M as a jeweller - I would work with him again in the future. I still think the ring is amazing and cannot stop staring at it! :lickout:

The Bespoke Gems website says this about the cut:

Design : Victoria Cut (Fred Van Sant) Facets : 77

This design is a classic old-style cushion cut. The facet pattern is copied from the cuts used on four of the large famous diamonds : Cullinan II, Cullinan IV, Polar Star and the Victoria. This design can be cut in a range of ratios, from 1:1 (square) up to 1:1.3 (rectangle).
