Hey,

Forums have helped me a ton already! Now time is starting to dwindle and need to act fast on a choice of stone so I can have it set in time for the lady :)

I have a budget of ~$5500US on the stone and plan on buying +0.75ct with EX/VS1/F/None (fluorescence) and "above" in terms of characteristics.

I've found a rock on Adiamor that meets their "Affinity Cut" standard, is a 0.8ct, F, VVS2, and None for fluorescence (personal choice here not wanting any). The proportions register a 0.9 on the HCA (which I am aware has it flaws), but considering it is the Adiamor Affinity cut I'm hoping I should be safe re: Symmetry? Thoughts?

I don't think they can provide ASET/Sarin/Ideal Scope images, and I want to buy in the next 24-48 hours.. How comfortable buying would you be that this would be a great performing stone based on the information I've provided?

I wouldn't buy that stone with the limited info that you have. You can find PS vendors with much more information on stones so that you don't have to worry about cut quality. I would consider this stone as it is a super ideal cut stone with a vendor that has a great trade in policy: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2978556.htm

Personally, I would not pay for VVS clarity either. It really raises the price of the stone and is a bit of overkill in my opinion. The stone I linked with VS1 clarity would be more than enough to satisfy eye clean requirements. You can also call WF, GOG, or any of the other PS vendors and tell them what you are looking for and they will be very happy to find a stone for you.

Thank you!

I'll wait to hear back from JA.com from the 3 I have requested ASETS for. I did not know how long it would take them, and they are all VS1 so I was *assuming* this stone would likely be better — really appreciate the comment around not worrying so much about going up to VVx.

JA.com have also been super fast to my surprise and someone reached out only an hour after I posted this. Here's hoping the results are good.

These are some great options as well.

1st and 3rd being more interesting. Really want to be able to have the stone stay within the "colourless" range.

If I'm not happy with the 3 I have requested, and those two are still around I'll make sure to have them checked.

The ones I am having looked at are here:

Hopefully one of them is a winner!

Thanks again,

Anyone have thoughts on the three I just posted?

Is there a reason that you want to stay so high in color? Many, and I argue most people can't detect the color between an F and a G GIA/AGS graded stone, and this one color difference can save hundred or thousands depending on the particular stone in consideration. Color is much more easily detected when viewed in typical color grading environments, face down, on a white background under proper lighting. When the stones are in their face up position it becomes nearly impossible to detect color because of the way light exits the stone and to the viewers eye. Some people however appreciate the purity and rarity of these colorless stones and will argue that they can see differences.

Here is a good video on color...

there is also a prequel to this video explaining popular misconceptions of diamond color that may also be helpful.

Hmmmm appreciate the thoughts.

I think more than any real reasonable response, I like the idea of being able to say (and that she can too) that it is within colourless range. I've also been comparing images on JA between slightly lower colour graded rocks and in some (not all) I can see the difference just by eye.

The most important consideration for me is that it is as sparkly and clear when set, I want to do as much as I can to make that the case.
