I would really appreciate your expertise.
I know very little.
Learning along the way.
Trying to grab an opportunity as well.
Who doesn''t want a big, colorless diamond with an excellent cut?
Well not many can afford it.
So what''s the next best option?
Could you please tell me how this diamond sounds to you?
I am looking at an emerald cut, 4.17 K VS2, good polish and symmetry.
And that is all I know.
Would you be able to comment on it with only this much info?
Your time is much appreciated.

Hi and welcome!

There really isn''t much that can be said without the basic proportions, type of lab report and some images of this diamond unfortunately, except that it is possible it will show some warmth being K colour of this size, have you seen it in person or can you give us some more info on where it is for sale and fill in some details above please?

Hi Lorelei!
Thank you for your warm welcome and support.
I will add on more info as I get more.
I now know more about what data I need to gather.
Well I know what I would like to have:
An emerald cut ring, 3.00 ct (or bigger.. one can hope..), platinum, no side stones.
What would you recommend the priority should be in such a stone,
1.color? Maximum J?
2.cut?
I would like a new stone, any recommendations where to buy? Reliable?
Are the well known establishments mentioned here more or less the same in what they offer for loose diamonds?
Do I just hire an expert to purchase for me? Any recommended consultants?
I would love to hear what you think of emerald cut engagement rings or if there are any links I can read up on.
I see that you are very knowledgeable, amazing, thank you for sharing.
Thank you once more for your time and support.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Clarity is important, so I would suggest VS2 or higher to increase the chances of getting an eyeclean diamond, I would make J colour the cutoff for colour.

Cut - don't go by labels such as Excellent, Very Good etc especially if vendor/ seller applied as this is no guarantee of a well cut stone. Here are some basic guidelines you can use, but if you find a diamond that falls outside of these ranges that you love, that is the most important thing, the following are suggestions, not rules.

depth - 70% or less
table - 65% or less
crown height - 10% or more

Then the rest comes down to images to check the light return and patterning if buying online. If buying in person you could order an ASET scope to use yourself and compare as many EC's in person as you can to see what is available and the type you prefer.

Vendors that have sourced great EC's that you could contact for assistance are,

www.whiteflash.com

You can also try;

If you would like to learn about the cut of these diamonds then read these articles written by our resident step cut expert and dear friend of mine Karl K,

Here are some diamonds I found that might be suitable for you, I don't know what your budget is but take a look, if you are interested in any of these ask JA for an ASET image then post it here.
