Ok I am absolutley brand new to this forum and I am totally lost when it comes to jewelry (especially gemstones). I have decided that I want a yellow sapphire for my engagement ring. I need help though... I dont know any reputable dealers, and I dont know where to start. I am looking for a yellow sapphire set in a white gold halo setting. I like a very thin band with diamonds inset into it. I don't like round or oval. I also like side details. Can anyone help me find this kind of ring or lead me in the direction to a good quality jeweler? Also what do I need to be looking for when shopping for gemstones? Here is a link to a ring that I really like. The only thing is that I think I would like a slightly deeper color yellow, I would like a little bit more detail on the sides. I am also unsure of this dealer. Does anyone know anything about them? Is this a good price for a ring like this? What should I expect to pay for a quality sapphire in a setting that I have described? HELP!!!! Thanks so much in advance, and I apologize if this was confusing or if I used improper terminalogy :)

You will probably have to look at a lot of stones before you find the right one.
Some sites
www.thenaturalsapphirecompany.com
www.acstones.com
www.customgemstones
www.artcutgems.com
There are many more but thats a start.
And yes a lot og jewelers can source the stone for you
Wink Jones as Michelle mentioned and whiteflash too.

OOOOO.... I really like that too! Thats just about the color I am looking for...

I also found this stone... http://www.webgraphicsengineering.com/Gemstones/detail.cfm?zNum=5064

And this setting... http://www.winkjones.com/images/store/wse5104_pave_b.jpg

I think the band on the setting may be a little much... I really really really like a very thin band. The whole setting may be a little much. I dont know...

What do ya''ll think?? :)

I love the concave cut stones too. And that one looks like it would b an easy shape to find a setting for.
That is a very pretty setting! I would almost like to see a little less pave on the shank too. Still it''s very nice.

Natural Sapphire Company has a fairly extensive selection of set yellow sapphire rings online now, too. Go to this link and choose 'yellow' from the color menu: http://thenaturalsapphirecompany.com/Sapphires/Jewelry/Rings/.

You can also build your own ring by choosing a stone and then a setting. Because their stones are unheated and untreated, they are higher priced per carat than heated sapphires. You can get a fairly good idea of the range of prices for stones you like from the site.

Icebox,
Is this sort of what you are looking for but in yellow gold? NSC You can contact the vendors suggested by folks, like the Natural Sapphire Co., by googling them and then going to the "contact" part of the website...you know you can do it!

LOL... yes I know I can find them on the internet... I was referencing how to find the vendors that would be affiliated with / recommended by this board (or knowledgeable members of the board). I guess I wasn't very clear about that :) I do like that ring, I think I would be looking for something with a thin band like that but with more side detail. Thanks for the suggestion! Its beautiful!

Under "RESOURCES" there are vendors listed. In the "Colored Stones" forum there are a lot of threads about colored stones, vendors recommended, and photos of the finished pieces. You can do a search for things too, like "sapphires" or "yellow".
