Yellow diamond halo?

I'm considering resetting my original diamond. It is a 2 carat radiant cut. I don't necessarily won't my stone to look larger so I'm considering using colored stones for a halo. I've always loved yellow diamonds, but never purchased one. Would the yellow take away from my diamonds color. My second choice would be pink sapphires. My stone is F color if that makes a difference. Thanks for any help.

HI bebe,
A yellow halo might be lovely.
However, trying to create a piece without specific design goals is a risk. There are many shades of yellow. Some of which you might love, and others you probably won't.

Once we get past potential design issues, the bottom line really is a question of taste.....
Some people love yellow halos, others do not:)

Thank you. That makes sense. I've picked out a few designs I like. I've seen several with blue sapphires. It sounds like I might have better results if I stick with white diamonds for the halo.

I was just going to suggest checking out Diamonds by Lauren for plenty of inspiration and lovely colored diamond photos. David @Rockdiamond is fantastic with colored diamond creations. He’s our colored diamond guy :)

If you can find pics of the design you love on the web, that will make the jeweler's job much easier:)

Thank you. I've seen some of their designs and they are beautiful. I'll start looking tonight.

Thank you. I have picked out a couple of designs I like. Hoping to combine some ideas. I have no artistic talent so I'll be scouring the internet for pics.

I was wondering if you use a yellow halo stone arrangement, will it make the center stone look dull?

That is also one of my concerns. I'm hoping to be able to see some yellow diamonds close to my diamond to see if it affects the color.

Contrast is your friend here. If it's not a strong yellow, it may not pack that sunshine punch.

I’d make sure your stone is set with white prongs and a white basket / undercarriage. And then have the halo and the band both be in YG with yellow diamond pave, so the only white diamond in the whole ring is your centre stone.

Basically the swapped version of this (I hope someone who is good with photoshop comes along!)

I like that much better than the only design I managed to find online, which was this:

Thank you for this. I think I might like it. I am hoping to make a decision soon. The jeweler I'm hoping to use said we could use one of his settings and use a marker to see if I even liked the yellow halo around my stone. He mainly does custom, but does have some settings in stock.

If you can see it on your hand that’s def the best way! I have a feeling it’ll look spectacular if the ring is all yellow and the centre is white.

Thank you. Fingers crossed that it will be a look I like.

I went to the jeweler I plan on using. The yellow didn't look very good with my skin tone. He had a pink sapphire that did look good. It was more of what I would call a bubblegum pink. He is working up a quote with pink sapphires instead of the yellow diamonds. My only worry is I'm not a spring chicken and I'm wondering if pink will look to out of place on my hand.

I forgot to add that most of the stones are baguette cuts.

I think pink baguettes are classy even for us “women of a certain age” but if you are concerned then blue sapphire is also a nice option.

Thank you. I'll try to post my inspiration ring. I'll have my diamond be the center then use pink sapphires where the picture has diamonds. I also won't have round diamonds going down the band.IMG_8065.jpeg

I love this design. I would be tempted to stick with diamonds. In this image the center stone is a step cut. So you have a nice balance of step and brilliant cuts. Your diamond is a radiant which is a busier facet pattern. Step cuts in the halo will already introduce one variation in cut style or texture on the ring. Adding color as well might make it feel too busy. Using step cuts like carre cuts in the corners than rounds could help.

Have you seen examples of similar rings your jeweler has made? Are you confident in their ability to execute this delicate design?

I've seen his work. One of the prettiest rings I've seen was on a woman at the furniture store and he did her ring. I was wondering if the pink might be too busy so I did ask him to do an all diamond quote also.

That's a lovely design. Very pretty. I love the thought of colored melee so it.

I suggest you ask to see some examples of his work in person and examine them up close to ensure it has the level of detail and finish you want.

I'll do that before I commit. Thank you

Thank you. My DH said if I do pink and don't like it I could reset it with diamonds and use the pink sapphires for something else.
