Yelling at the TV....

So I'm watching Lucifer (guilty pleasure- I love Maise) and tonight's episode is about a diamond heist. And OMG the misinformation is appalling.

Among other flagrant transgressions:

#1- tracking stolen diamonds "is easy" because they have "serial numbers" on them. That you can't simply remove if you steal a bunch of them.
#2-huge rocks, with "serial numbers" but no corresponding lab reports.
#3-sales person with a loupe, and no master color comparison stones judges the color of the stone and reads the "serial number" like it is a license plate number and "knows" it's a stolen stone.

:naughty:

This is not the first time TV shows or books have gotten jewelry details wrong, but this one was just maddening. I ended up yelling at the TV.

My DH was like...

Sounds like me yelling at traffic. We have an abundance of one-way streets in my town and I feel like I’m risking my life every time I venture out. There is a lot of yelling and gesturing on my part.

Obvious: sooo good to see you posting, L!

Good to see you too Monnie. I've been mostly on RT. :wavey:

I feel your pain Layla. Whenever I am watching movies/tv etc I am always finding inaccuracies and it can drive me batty depending on the topic. My dh tells me to just let it go and enjoy and remember it is not real life. Easier said than done for me. Haha I yell at the TV characters too.:oops2:

I am not familiar with the show Lucifer (and being in the field of course makes it harder for you) but my advice is to ignore the inaccuracies and just go with it so you can enjoy the show. But yes I feel your pain that is for sure. It is just as easy to be accurate as inaccurate IMO. Oh well.

I too was having trouble with the artistic license taken in that Lucifer episode and concentrated instead on the hotness of Tom Ellis who plays the wickedly delicious devil.

House Hunters International does occasionally evoke verbal abuse from me in episodes where Americans move to Europe for the "authentic" experience and then spend the entire episode kvetching about the size and cost of apartments :rolleyes2:

I roll my eyes at every movie or tv show scene that shows inappropriate weapon handling. Especially those that are depicting people who should know how. Cop movies and shows are notorious. Anything depicting prisons are even worse. The only one I have seen that shows impressive knowledge of weapons is Keanu Reeves and he is impressive IRL. Youtube has videos of him and his wife/SO? at 3 Gun competitions.

Hi @LaylaR!!!

Omg yes to house hunter shows. Drives me batty. Or when they say oh my home back in the middle of nowhere was 6000 sq feet for 300k and what do you mean I’m getting This ...insert name of expensive city...for 300k.
How many times are they going to repeat it throughout the episode. Lol and grrrrr.

:rolleyes2:

I don't yell in traffic, but I do get aggravated and call them names. I think since I've lived in high traffic areas all my life though, I have a tolerance built up.

Missy, what inaccuracies bug you the most?

Matata-- OMG House Hunters International kills me. "We want an authentic, immersive experience living abroad... wait, there's only one bath, really?"

Redwood- I wonder about that all.the.time. I see the gun wielding characters and I'm like... um? As for prisons. Don't watch the Flash this season (aside from the fact that the last season has sucked), he is in prison. And it's like he's in a summer camp on a rainy day.

Mental health is another topic on TV that bugs me. Just terrible.

It's lovely to see all my favorite ladies!

Gypsy is still alive?... glad to see you posting again...

Hi Layla! So many things I don't know where to begin. I'd have to be watching a show and write them down as it is happening to share them here with you. Suffice it to say when we are watching a show and you know IRL no way could that be happening. When things are not just not realistic but crazy ridiculous and not based in reality. I mean I try to suspend my common sense when watching and just go with the flow but sometimes it's like  .
When the plot lines are implausible or the way they solve the mystery implausible or find the evidence etc.

Or when we are watching medical shows and you know they have medical advisors on board so they get some of the facts right but still miss some and they way they arrive at the most complex diagnoses sometimes has me SMH lol. Sure ok. Wish it was like that IRL. :!: Oh and why is every person in every show so movie star attractive? Wow all the hospital staff, all the detectives, all the emergency personnel etc. They are all model like in appearance. Oh right again just like real life. YES I would like to see real people represented as beautiful too and not just the model perfect people.

Speaking of which does anyone watch ALL star project runway? They are back to using super skinny models. I was really enjoying the more varied in shapes and sizes models that were on the show during the last season and what happened to that?

And haha yes about the couples looking for homes and they want "character" but they want everything completely modern and new. What they say they want but what they really want doesn't jive.

HI:

Nice to see you Layla! Funny thread.

Of course I take umbrage with medical shows. I know it is suspension of disbelief, but stethoscopes around the neck? And neck ties? That dangle and hit patients in the face, notwithstanding the infection risk. REALLY? Ya NO. :lol-2: Yell away!

cheers--Sharon

Yes, DF I am here. I've actually been on RT for a couple weeks. Great to 'see' you too! How are you?

Hi Sharon, I'm here. I don't watch too many medical drama's anymore. I think the last one I watched was the first couple seasons of House. I never realized that about neckties. Now, I have something new to yell about. :)

Missy, House must have driven you crazy! Are there any medical shows that pass the sniff test?

Implausible conclusions/mysteries are irritating. I watch a few supernatural shows and at least that way, when something implausible happens its because of a vision, or someone casting a spell, or someone having superhuman senses that sniff out information.

Magic is better than shoddy implausible leaps.

I'm still ALIVE!...you watch too much Trump on TV...

Great to see you back again!!! I haven't seen the show you are referring to but the amount of times I've seen people incorrectly describing gemstones on telemarketing channels has always puzzled me.....

The only time I have ever yelled at the TV is this past year.

Hahaha I can guess at whom (or is it who) you were yelling lol. And I’m right there with you. That’s why these days I do not watch the news if I can help it!

There is no guessing Missy. You know who it is. LOL

I kind of yelled at the tv this week. We were just passing time watching this smarmy romance movie because it was supposed to be based on dog shows, which we like. Then the judge put the ribbon around the handler's neck!!! Seriously? She didn't win, the dog did. It was laughable. It was also the wrong colour ribbon, but at that point I had to stop watching. Not enough dogs, too many dumb writers.

I stick to science channel type shows...
But yeah I yelled at the TV during barkfest. Stupid and strange info they have on dogs sometimes.

DF, Any bling plans?

Arkie, Lovely to see you too! I've noticed that about those channels. I can't tell you how many times I've scratched my head thinking... that's not right.

Callie and Missy

Lyra, love your new AV. I often wish pets were more than props or loose plot points. I like it when they are co-stars.

Arcadian, what's barkfest? Intrigued.

Its like shark week, except for dogs...lol They show a lot of dog based shows...not that my dog cares or anything:lol-2:

then there's Westminster.

Westminster which is actually quite interesting, isn't just pooch modeling, but also agility, which is something we don't get to see a lot of on tv. A few stations showed it this year.

OMG House Hunters International kills me. "We want an authentic, immersive experience living abroad... wait, there's only one bathroom?”

And then it’s....Where are the closets?! and then they inevitably move to the largest, least normal housing option next to all their American friends, but feel great about themselves because they rode a train.

I also have a beef with regular house hunting shows. It’s always, “I am a freelance graphic designer and my wife is a professional butterfly catcher, our budget is $1.2 million”.
Sorry, WHAT?! Where are they getting these people and how do even half of them have the resources to fund that kind of housing??

Historical inaccuracies in dramas used to drive me nuts but I have somewhat relaxed and learned to let it go and enjoy the show.

OMG yes! How do all these young couples have such big budgets? I remember when purchasing my first home (in my mid/late twenties) and my budget was 1/10 of that example you shared above. Umm how the heck do they do it? When I make comments (to the tv of course haha) about that my dh says family money. Wish they'd adopt us.:cheeky:

LOL butterfly catchers. Hey leave the butterflies alone people.

@LaylaR It’s so GOOD to see you back here!!! I’ve missed you. I’m sure it comes as no surprise to you that @missy and I are yelling at the TV. At least we are consistent, right @missy. Some things never change.

I've watched Westminster. When I remember it's on I'll tune in. I have never heard the whole week called Barkfest through, it's a great name.

Is there a meowathon?

LOL LOL LOL! I feel the same way about House Hunters. I can't watch it anymore.

My wife collects M&M's and I am a professional carrot peeler. Our budget is 1.7 million.

The closets, it's so true. My favorite are the ones who want a three bedroom house have 2 kids and when the closets are too small, they decide the kids can bunk together so they can convert the 3rd bedroom into a closet. Really? How much clothing do you have???

Missy and Callie, I missed you guys so much! My solution to the yelling at the TV is just that I don't watch certain things anymore. Too overwhelming. The people with the butterfly nets would have to come for me if I watched that stuff.

Miss you too Layla and omg yes there are things I just will not watch anymore because it is too aggravating and too stressful and no thank you very much. Totally with you on that one. I know what I can handle and what I cannot. No butterfly nets for us...yet at least.:cheeky:

Or maybe we are all horribly misguided and butterfly catching/carrot peeling etc is where it's at!!!
