Hello, newb here.. looking for advice.. :)

In the past 2 days, I have been dead-set on an emerald cut solitaire, then thought briefly about a radiant, and here''s the latest fascination.. 3-stone platinum setting with trillion sidestones and a north-south oval center stone. My budget doesn''t leave a whole lot of room for something huge and fancy, but basically about 1ct total weight. I''ve seen lots of pics online.. just wondering if anyone has this kind of design for their personal rings.

One thing I have read here and there is how trillion sidestones won''t allow for a wedding band to flush comfortably. Anyone here experiencing this? I really like how the trillions have an effect of enlargening the oval center stone.

Thanks for any advice.

I don''t know if it would sit flush. Maybe if they are set a little higher it might sit flush with a band.

It sounds like you''re not quite set yet. Do some more research before spending the $$$ on something you might not love.

I think the idea of a s/w set oval with trills would be a cool look.

I happen to love ovals with half moons on the sides. It is more updated and a bit more unique than a trillion...just my opinion. And, they are all curvy stones, and really compliment the oval in the middle. Also, I think whatever side stones you chose, you should design the band to fit with it, since I am sure with adjustments, any jeweler who knows you want to wear them together can design it that way. Another thought is is a three stone oval (all set north to south) or on oval with pears on the sides. I have seen all of these and they look pretty...those three stones set in pave bezels are especially pretty and really make the ring stand out!

If the stones are not huge, there might be a small gap between ring and band, but not a big one. A higher setting for the ring will probably get rid of the gap completely.

Just as an aside, have you seen a marquise with trillions ? Unless you hate the shape... For some reason a relatively small marquise between largetrillions looks paticularly nice to me

And those would be the shapes that look largest for their weight as well - trillions are usually spready, and most marquises are too.

Here's a pic of Mydreamring's oval with half moons

I say "yea" to the oval with trillions. I too love that look. One of my friends has a ring like that and she wears it as a stand alone ring as she didn''t want a shadow band to fit it. She wears her wedding band on her right hand. It''s a gorgeous look!

I think the oval with trillions looks great. It''s interesting because usually a round shape and a more angular shape don''t seem to match, but after looking at the photo in the link I think it will be gorgeous. The half moons with the oval are also very nice.

Okay, I am SOOOO loving the ring on the link that marriahlyn posted with the oval and side trillions. YUM.
I am also drooling over mydreamring''s ring that mrss posted. I don''t think you can go wrong either way! If you are seriously leaning towards the oval with trills....go for it...it looks stunning. But with the waffling you''ve described, I think it''s best to take a look a some rings in person if possible...you may find that you feel differently when you can see it, try it on, etc.

Well it''s been a few days and I am still wanting this setting. I went to a local "diamond superstore" just to look at different settings.. what a disaster that was! The sales girl had me doing a u-turn within 30 seconds, stating they had nothing to offer me in this design and she was not willing to search for something like it. I immediately phoned the manager when I got home and he pretty much begged me to come back. Oh well, just thought I''d share that. :)

I do have a local family friend who is a jeweler who I planned to use all along. He is currently looking for this setting for me. He did say that the half-moons are a great look, but I could get more for my buck with trillions on the sides.

Thanks for the positive responses!

Be sure to keep us posted on the progress...with lots of pics!
